Should be ok there. I know people that have lived there for a long time and they haven't had issues. Unless **** really really hits the fan, I wouldn't be concerned about the house flooding. Now getting out and about may be an issue, but she should just be prepared for hanging at the house.

I was in Friendsood for Allison and Ike and was not too far from where your wife is. Saw lots street flooding (the home flooding was way across town) during Allison but I drove around the morning after Ike with mostly no problems. There was some street flooding, but just a few known problem spots from what I remember.

Bummer for me is if it does substantial damage, it is in my region and they'll dispatch a bunch of us engineers down there to drive around and do damage assessments and draw up quick repair projects....lots of OT, but pretty miserable work.

That's what I kind of thought looking at the flood maps. Being so pregnant worries me but she said she got water and I know Amazon delivered dog food and toilet paper today.
TC, I'm in Friendswood if your wife needs any help. Will be here with my two kids also as my husband is in Iowa on work. We should be fine, but just in case don't hesitate to Pm me.

Some of the wannabe meteorologists on Weather Underground seem to be gleeful at the prospect of it hitting Cat 3

My parents left Port A this morning. They said not a lot was boarded up and people believe they'll have more water damage than wind. I guess we'll find out a lot about this house after this storm.

We're in CS if anyone needs a crash pad full of kids.

My buddy in CC/Rockport was waiting until today to board up both his houses. Wanted to make sure he had to before doing so. Sounds like a lot of work.

No, but our housekeeper is a local and does odd-jobs for us. They buttoned up all of the loose ends on the outside.

NWS just tweeted they expect a big jump in strength in the 10am update. That might take it from a TD to a cat 1 in 12 hours total

Don't worry guys, I turned off my sprinkler system this morning. That pretty much guarantees that any predicted rain for Houston, won't happen.

They always are, has been that way for all the years I've been on it. Any chance for a storm to hit land and people area wishcasting it to be a major hurricane so they can sit and watch.

The guys at Storm2k are impressed by the rapid strengthening. I'm waiting for the 10:00 report then calling my sister and telling her to get the hell out. They live two houses from CC bay.

Well. Alright then. Very symmetrical storm. As soon as the center clears out he's gonna be looking at us, sooner rather than later. If any folks on the TX coast are planning to stay, that this looks like "fun", please reconsider, it's dangerous to stay and definitely not fun. Please pay close attention to your local authorities and be ready to go if asked to. Stay safe, this is liable to be one for books. Long hours ahead watching this monster, surely to be a curve ball or two, most always is.

WOW! Is all I have to say, haven't been able to post since yesterday afternoon but man this sure took off last night when the 00z GFS came in MUCH stronger. Looks like it's early predictions of a potent major hurricane striking the SE Texas coast may not be too far off if trends continue until landfall.

Folks, this is a SERIOUS AND DEADLY situation setting up and will likely be the first major hurricane to strike the U.S. since October 2005. The major hurricane strike drought may be near over, even if it comes shy of major status we saw what Ike can do back in 2008 and with the shallow waters of the Gulf surge will be a HUGE issue. The Gulf of Mexico is surely working it's powers today.

If you walked into the HEB at I10 & Bunker in Houston, you would have thought North Korea just launched a nuclear warhead.

I was at the one off Buffalo Speedway last night, after 8, and it was a madhouse. I wasn't even looking for hurricane prep, just needed some things around the house after traveling for work. It was busier at 8:30 on a Wednesday night than it ever is on Sunday afternoons. Crazy how everyone goes into a panic over these.

Same for the Alabama St HEB. I hadn't had a chance to get groceries for the week until yesterday and had to grab a few things. It was busier than most Sundays.

Wife wanted me to stop by there on my way home yesterday to pick up a few things so that we didn't have to leave the house in this mess.

Told her...

Was there last night. About as busy as a Sunday (i.e., jam packed full). Not even trying to do hurricane prep. Just need regular prep groceries.

100% convinced Underground Weather & TWC are owned by bottled water & flashlight salesmen.

That or the younger people of Houston (age 26-30) from what I could tell, are the easiest manipulated people on the planet.

If you think Houston stores are bad, you should see B/CS. We have the Daily Double of students coming back and Harvey.

The triple whammy would have been if we had a home game this weekend.
