I had about 30,000 sq ft hydroseeded with Princess 77 bermuda last Wednesday in DFW. My irrigation system is 15 zones (11 zones for lawn, 4 for trees and flowerbeds) with each zone having 4 rotors. All sprinkler nozzles are Hunter PGP rotors. I started watering on Thursday and have been watering for 11-13 minutes per zone split into two cycles (due to clay soil) and that happens at 8:00am, 11am, 2pm, and 5pm. I feel like I am watering constantly because with 11 zones it takes about 2 hours. Should I go lighter on the watering or should I stick with what I'm doing and wait to see results? Since it's all rotors I feel like a light spray is about 12 minutes (it does 6 minutes, then comes back for another 6 minutes after it cycles through).

I did hydromulch once it was a mix of Bermuda and centipede. We watered 4x a day for a week on like 10 minutes per zone and cut back each week on the watering and I was mowing less than a month after we hydromulched. About 1.5-2 weeks in we had army worms invade I put out what was recommend and killed them quick. ?

I only have six zones for small bungalow but thanks for subsidizing our property taxes!

In all honesty I feel that is too much. Believe it was mentioned by someone else in another thread that people tend to over water when there is a clay base. What did the landscaper tell you?

Hydroseed guy seemed to think it was ok for germination and would indicate if it was too much after the grass emerges and turns a purple color. Irrigation guy said 12-15 minutes three times a day. It has a 2" sandy loam topsoil which is obviously the layer holding the seeds at the moment. Compared to what my irrigation guy said, I figured more frequent but lower duration would be better. Like I said in the original post it waters 12 minutes 4 times a day but each run is split in two even cycles of 6 minutes. It's been fairly windy too in north Texas so I'm seeing a lot of my smaller water particles from the rotors being blown away from the intended application area.

It looks like the guessing game will be negated next week with about 5 straight days of rain starting on Wednesday. Hopefully not enough to wash all my seed away. Wednesday will be exactly 1 week after hydroseeding.

With the cooler temps in North Texas the hydroseed guy also threw in a small amount of rye thinking it would germinate first and help hold the seed and soil until the Bermuda could germinate.

It needs to stay muddy for a week. Adjust your schedule to keep it that way. Given this week's forecast for rain, you may not have to water much.

Also we were in a sandy area.

I have sprouts! Woohoo! It's only been 5 days since seeding. Got some good rain yesterday. How do I tell if the little sprouts are the rye or the Bermuda? My seed guy did 2.5 lbs of Bermuda and less than 1 lb of rye as a contingency against cooler temps. It's been in the 80s so I'm hoping it's the Bermuda!

Doubt it is rye.

It actually looks like rye to me. Long thin single sprout.

Is it fair to say that my watering schedule which has been successful for germinating the rye so quickly will be just as successful germinating the Bermuda once soil temps raise a bit? Or I guess it could be just a bit slower naturally.

Keep doing what you are doing..you could probably cut back to 6 minutes per zone, and then increase back as the Bermuda starts to pop.

Why is the rye in there?

Hydroseed guy put a small amount down in order to get some for sure green up and erosion control as the temperatures were not yet ideal for Bermuda. I didn't argue. Now I read that all grasses are monocot and a Bermuda sprout could look like what I'm seeing. I really hope it's the Bermuda but if not I guess I'm still doing something right.
