I am looking into buying a roll off dumpster trailer and a couple dumpsters for trash haul off on construction jobs.

Anyone used one before? Any advice?

Thanks

Advice: rent the dumpster from Ameriwaste, Sprint or WM unless by "a couple of projects" you mean "full time business that I intend to make my living off of".

Trying to save money by dumping them yourself?

I wouldn't want that headache. Just get buddy-buddy with one guy and they'll usually help you out. I've got one who does my projects & doesn't charge me delivery or rent on dumpsters like most do.

And if you don't use their can, they usually won't haul it for you or will charge you an insane fee. So you'll either need a skid trailer & truck to haul them to the dump, or a skid truck.

Or you can get a hydraulic dump trailer, but you'd still need a dually truck to pull it.

I am planning to start a business, I have a relationship with several builders and I am researching to see if it would be worth my time.

Ah, that's different.

Per craigslist, dumpster & trailer combo (drop off type) runs about 30k plus the cost of additional dumpsters. Then you need a dually truck. Or you could buy a fleet of hydraulic dump trailers at 8-10k a piece.

Wouldn't a roll off system be better than having to maintain a fleet of trailers?

This guy is making a very nice living doing what he has done since he was about 5 years old - taking out the trash. Trust me on this one. Pretty much does construction waste. But he has to make a lot of trips to Dunkin Donuts in the morning, especially when there are city projects that need to be bid on and the politicians controlling the contracts are feeling calorically deficient.

Probably, just giving you options of what I can think of. Either way, you'll need a yard of some sort to store your cans that aren't in use.

My last thought would be if you know so builders, you'll obviously have to beat their current rates so there's some risk there.

That truck is a tad bit undersized for that trailer.

Different than what your OP indicated to me, sorry about that.

You will need to get multiples of 10, 20 and 30 yard dumpsters. Not going to be a cheap investment. Truck wont be cheap, either. All of that can be overcome though, and I am sure you have thought through it.

Remember that you dont make, money when the dumpster is sitting on site, you make money on dump fees. You will need to k ow the rules on what can go in each type of landfill, have the proper insurances and protections legally on the event somebody drops a 55 gallon drum of used oil in one and, covers it up with trash, etc.

Thanks, this is the type of stuff I hadn't thought of yet.

You ever end up starting that roll-off business? It can be very costly to start up, I've heard you don't wanna jump in unless you have ~100k to dump into equipment. That being said, I have a friend from back home doing very well at it, he started with a few cans and scaled from there: bluebindumpsters.co

I'd be happy to ask him any questions or advice for you. From the sounds of it, it can be a very lucrative business but certainly needs to be a full-time gig, not profitable as a side-hustle.

I rented one to clean up after 18 LBJ flood. The guy did what you are thinking of doing. Worked flawlessly for me and his only issue was reliable employees.
I considered doing that myself but already fight employee problems.
