Both of these pics are being claimed to be from the Hallettsville Airport on FB. I know they're not but can't remember where they're from. Hell, I don't think Hallettsville even has anything remotely resembling an airport.

That remotely resembles an airport.Tagguy said:Finn Maccumhail said:

It may only be one runway and I don't ever recall seeing any planes take off or land but it is there.

I bet you'll find more diamondbacks in Halletsville than timber rattlers.12f Mane said:
Those are prairie rattlesnakes and from somewhere where it is actually cold enough for reptiles to need hibernaculums (like Montana or Canada). The only rattlesnakes around Hallettsville would be timbers, but they don't den here.
No idea on the gator, but I don't know of a waterbody big enough to hold a gator like that around Hallettsville.
Negative. Runway is only about half as long as necessary to land his 757 or the Presidential 747.91AggieLawyer said:Quote:

Air Trump One compatible?
No, I meant what I said. Diamondbacks are notably rare or absent from the majority of the Post Oak Savannah/Blackland prairie. You can draw a rough line from Victoria to Gonzales to La Grange, and diamondbacks won't be east (or far) of that line. Unless you guys can show me some proof.schmellba99 said:I bet you'll find more diamondbacks in Halletsville than timber rattlers.12f Mane said:

We have diamondbacks in Brazoria County, have run across them in Matagorda county and Halletsville,is well, within normal range.
Wouldnt say they are the most common snake, but timber rattlers are not as prevalent nearly anywhere outaide of parts of east Texas and diamondbacks are not uncommon at all along the Bayand Gulf Prairie regon.
I've taken off and landed at the Hallettsville airport, so I can confirm it's possible.Tagguy said:Finn Maccumhail said:

Well then, I defer to greater knowledge.ttha_aggie_09 said:
It doesn't sound right (just looking at a map) but 12fmane is right. Several Timber rattlers are spotted in facilities in Wilcox and Halletsville. Didn't believe it until I saw the pictures.
The biggest rattlesnake I have seen in the wild was in Galveston... ran into plenty south of 35 and particularly in Palacios. Never saw one in between El Campo (59) and Markham (35) despite lots of hunting around there and other snakes spotted.
