Anyone else have kids compete today at the regional HS bass tournament?

My son was on Sam Rayburn today as part of the Houston region competing with the East region. Son and his fishing partner had a 5 fish bag of 10.65 lbs and qualified for the State Championship tournament on Ray Roberts in late May. Rayburn was producing today with lots of 5 fish bags. 22 lbs won it with a big bass of 7.28 lbs.

If you have kids that like to fish, this has been a great experience for my son.

Congrats to your son!

When I was in high school I'd bail early to tank bass fish and hunt doves.

Did they launch out of Umphrey's?

We have a family house up there on the south end. Been a great late winter/spring for fishing.

Every time I get out there we've been on the fish this year.

Im biased because I've lived my entire life having a house on the water down there, but Rayburn is the best bass fishing lake in the state imo. Gives you multiple options and depths to find em, can be hard as hell at times too. Sort of like a good golf course.

It's so awesome that kids have options like this now. I would have loved to have had the chance to do something like that in high school.

They launched from Cassells Boykin park because that is where weigh in was held. The HS events are normally trailering events so you can lunch wherever, as long as you're at weigh-in by the right time.

Oh ok. Yeah those are the 2 main tournament launch points. Cassells Boykin is right in the mid-lake area. Best fishing spot on the lake right this time of year.

Glad they all did well.

Dumb questions:

Who drives the boat?

How much coaching is allowed by adults during fishing?

Typically, a parent or chaperone will drive the boat. I know they seek out folks with boats to sort of sponsor these kids and offer up their boat for tournaments.
