Bump! What is the best method to kill it without killing the surrounding brush/trees?

Dish soap as a surfactant?
I'm told that this defintely helps. Also mixed with vinegar, but I'm going from memory here so that might be sketchy.

I used roundup concentrate made for poison ivy (available at the blue and orange stores). Killed it all in one spraying

I would stick to the brush killer only and not mix in roundup. The round up ended up killing the foliage to fast before the brush killer could kill the root.

It took a while but I eventually got it all killed. You start seeing effects around 2 weeks and know what level of kill in about 3 weeks. Once you get some more rain some will pop back up from the runners/roots you missed, but just keep checking every month or so and especially after a rain.

As far as not killing trees, I did an experiment on a young red oak that had a huge poison ivy vine draped all over it, that if it died it wouldn't have been a big deal. I sprayed the ivy really good and tried to not spray the tree but still got a lot on it. The tree leaves that got the chemical shriveled up, but the tree is still going strong. I sprayed it about a year ago. So long story short, be careful and try and miss the tree but you should be fine.
