I have never tried to catch shrimp or Crabs

I usually fish off surfside. Are there any places around surf side to catch shrimp or crabs?

Could someone describe the process. Net for shrimp. Crab trap for. Crabs. Is it fun and worth while?

Never caught crabs myself. I've heard it's a lot of fun until you catch them....

There is a little public park on fm3005 that has a crabbing pier on the bayside. It's just up the road on the left side as you are heading towards San Luis from surf side. I've never actually stopped there, just driven past it many times.

To really have fun with it all you need is chicken necks, string, weights, a dip net, and an ice chest of beer. Throw the chicken necks out about 30 feet somewhere with a shallow grade and clean water. Sit back and drink beer, occasionally tugging the lines to see if there is resistance. If so, pull in slowly and net when you see the crab. Repeat.

Our method was pretty similar to yours when I was a kid, except we would cut off the end of a pair of pantyhose and put the chicken inside along with the weights.

The crabs would try to get at the meat and get their claws stuck in the pantyhose. Made it easier to pull them in without losing any.

Best place in Texas to catch crabs is Lubbock.

I've crabbed along the aforementioned surfside crabbing pier but it can get crowded. Other spots are underneath the intercostal bridge and the brazos by brazosport high school. I'm in Galveston and usually crab Lake Como by the state park. Handlining is more fun but traps will yield more crabs. Keep in mind if the water temp is less than 70 degrees (which it will be til late-March), the crabbing will be scarce. Have fun and good luck. IMO there are few things better than fresh steamed blue crab.

Shrimping and Crabbing.....

Little deeks and nasty girls.

Wished I could help you with the situation you are in, but chicken necks on a string at the old bridge over at Indianola used to be some great blue crabbing back in the day. And Scragnoia (Magnolia) beach right up the road had some nice 9 mo. preggers wearing string bikini's back then too.

If you go, don't trust the view from the back, wait till they turn sideways!

Also, steam your catch live with a colander basket and lid so the crabs don't submerge in the water. Pour in a beer, some old bay (Tony's if you're a true Cajun) and some vinegar for 25-30 mins until the crab are reddish-orange. And discard the "dead mans fingers", the grayish gills when picking.

Amen brother! We had a beach house on Magnolia Beach when I was growing up and we went crabbing all around there and Indianola like you said. Wonderful memories. Bringing back a whole cooler of blue crabs and then watching my dad viciously knife them. I miss that place.

Damn, that's like high fencing crab. We were pure string and dip net people.
