So this is where I do 99% of my fishing. We have a place at welder flats and I have been happy with my Hobie outback but my dads looking for a :

TROLLING MOTOR POWERED SKIFF THAT YOU CAN STAND UP IN

All we need to do is fish up and down the narrow bay seen in the second picture. This is very shallow water so unless it's a high tide there isn't a lot of boat traffic. Dad has a shoalwater stealth for the bay stuff but we are just looking for a different way to get to those skinny water reds and trout. Would be nice to go gigging off it as well.

Thanks y'all for the help

Soloskiff. They are powered by 3 horsepower to 5 horsepower gas Motors but will run skinny.

Agree, sounds like perfect use for a solo.

This one seems like a decent deal.

That looks absolutely amazing! Cost?

About $3500 plus power is what I've been able to find online. They're made in Abu Dhabi or Dubai and imported by a company in Florida.

That looks like what I saw about 5 years ago as we were coming out of the east end of Shoalwater, shown by some the OP's pics. It was skinny that day. Real skinny. We were in my (now) 16 ft Flatlander. On of the last fishing days I ever spent with my Dad before he passed. We were like WTF is that? Looked like kayaks under some extreme power. But they were sitting down, and low.

They looked surprised that there was a "conventional" boat back in there.

Finally a boat I can afford!!!

So the boat is made overseas and transported to Florida. Then you pay shipping and then pay for a motor.

I've seen the stick boats and they looks awesome and made in Manor Tx, but I think they are around $7,000

Thought about maybe building one? Fast and easy 2-3 month garage project for something that size.

Bateau.com has several possible plans in their small powerboat section.

Not trying to advertise for them but I have built a few of their boats and been pleased with the results. Very easy, even for a beginner.

Me too, and I already have another boat. Can't decide what to do next, but between now and then I have a backhoe attachment to fabricate.

Looking like 7k minimum for H:Craft:
$4395 for White basic hull
Motor 2600 to 3100 (9hp, 15hp, or 20hp)
Add any options and factor in transportation and you are at a 10k skiff.

I like them. Don't know if I could justify that though.

Do any of these skiffs have a tunnel hull?

Or you can buy one that's made in the US for about $1000 cheaper. This is the microskiff I have which is almost exactly the same minus some bells and whistles. It's made by R&R boatworks in Florida. I have a 5hp on mine but you can run a trolling motor on it if you wanted.

Solo skiff at $1800 and 3.5 tohatsu for $950 puts you less than 3k on the water. They can go in the bed of your truck as well

I don't have twitter, what is the name and model I've browsed the R&R page but only saw big stuff.

Unload it like a kayak somewhat.

You could buy this one and glass it for durability.

Dude, that thing is pretty sweet. I think I may give it a go and try to build one of those. If I do, I'll post the progress.

I like the FS13, but what do you think about the SK14? Is it worth it to have the extra 11.5" in width or would it be better for a first time build to go with the skinnier one. Seems like the process is pretty much identical for the two.

Part of me is thinking why not go for broke and try the XF20, but after all the additional cost for outboard, controls, chairs, towers, etc., it's gonna get pricey in a hurry. Depending on the motor, it looks like I could keep the FS13 or SK14 under $2K pretty easily.

This is me thinking outloud

Could a person fiberglass the bulls but instead of Fiberglass use a Kevlar/carbon fiber sheet?
Salt of the water

Kevlar is expensive and a pain to work with. Harder to trim, wet out, and sand than fiberglass. You gain abrasion resistance over fiberglass.

Carbon gives you more strength and stiffness at a lighter weight. I believe it is more brittle as well.

I think your better off saving your money and rigging smartly with lightweight components on a micro skiff, than trying to spend a bunch of money fabricating a slightly lighter hull.
MouthBQ98

You can get more scratch resistance and a smoother hull bottom once finished by coating it with a few thin layers of graphite powder/epoxy resin mix from the waterline down. It is very easy to apply, and touch up as needed and makes a noticeable difference in abrasion resistance.

Fiberglass is so easy to work with it usually isn't worth bothering with anything else. The wood core provides lots of extra toughness without the weight of many more layers of glass/Kevlar. Wood is itself a natural fiber matrix after all. Carbon fiber is best used layering on itself to make purely carbon fiber construction, though you can use it on a foam core. With these boats, you can go too light, so that as you move around on it even slightly your relative weight really shifts and moves it more than you want as a casting platform. Imho, if you stand on it it should be near your own weight, or very beamy.

Any of those similar sized hulls will be of generally similar build time and difficulty.

Boat is the Conch paddleskiff. I don't believe they advertise it on their website. I can give you the owner's contact info if you'd like though.

Solo for sale in Houston. At $1500 it'll probably sell quick.

what is the fuel capacity on a skiff like that? I guess if you built your own you could build in a compartment that would hold a portable tank.

According to the website, the tohatsu 3.5 has a .26 gallon integral tank but gets "sensational" fuel economy.
Salt of the water
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Yep, most of those 5 hp and under outboards have integral tanks. I've seen some guys taking 32 Oz Gatorade bottles with extra fuel. If you really wanted to increase your range you could take an extra half gallon gas can.
