Just realized I will be taking my recently acquired RTIC 65 to Lake Livingston this weekend and don't want to lose it. What do you folks use for security (other than moving to locked vehicle)?

my dad always says locks and chains only keep an honest man honest. if a person wants that cooler, it doesnt matter what you do.

OK, now I see some pictures of that using a bracket designed for that purpose. Just ordered one from Amazon.

Thanks!

Fact! Last week someone stole a shop vac out of my truck by cutting the lock while I was at the gym. They did it in under a minute.

This is what I use:

Yeti Bracket

1/4" Whip Check

Shielded Shackle Padlock

I loop the whip check through itself around the securing pad eye in the bed of my truck and lock the other end to the bracket. Never had any issues and I've left my Yeti locked in the bed of my truck for a couple of weeks at a time. Even done this in Aransas Pass/ Rockport where the meth heads will steal a cooler in the blink of an eye.

This is why I normally just wrap the cable around itself a few times rather than locking it and having to keep track of the key. Figure if they want it bad enough, they'll take it regardless.

They steal those too.

I had my 120 quart igloo full of ice stolen out of back of my truck in the Vernon Walmart parking lot. I was on the way to the lease so nothing was in it except the ice and a wire rack that I had built to keep meat above the drain plug level when I would keep meat on ice for a few days.

And one of my lease mates had his 120 quart igloo stolen from the same parking lot the next year. He was on the way home from the lease and it had two deer quartered up in it. They also stole his buck head out of the back of his truck at the same time.

I've had two yet's stolen off my truck. First one was secured with a thick cable which they just cut with a hacksaw. The second was secured with a bracket/chain system that I built, they just cut the chain. Both were stolen when I drove dually's with flatbeds on them. I went back to regular truck beds and think out of sight, out of mind helps. I now use the cable lock and just don't leave in my truck all the time

make sure you have your Yeti sticker on the back of your truck so everyone knows to look in the bed of your truck for one.

We did a little testing on the different options and tried to cut through the same whip check that I use with some bolt cutters and never made it all the way through. Idk if it's bc of the braided wire or what but we just couldn't seem to find a way to get through more than the first few layers of it but we could use the same bolt cutters to cut through the cable on the python bike lock so go figure. Chain can also be cut through fairly easily with the right tools so that's why I went with the whip check. I'm sure if someone out there is determined enough they could do it, but it's the best system I've found so far. I think the main weakness would be the yeti bracket as they could probably open the cooler and pry it straight if they wanted to.

I hate thieves and yes they'll steal anything and everything including igloos. My parents' place in Aransas Pass got broken into not long ago. They stole an old laptop and some other random electronics worth next to nothing. Thankfully they didn't steal the thousands of dollars of fishing gear we have there but the cost to repair the damage from them breaking in far outweighed the cost of the items they did steal. Just a matter of time before one of those POS breaks into a house with an armed homeowner in it.

You're a rookie so it's required reading for you to research every forum that mentions yeti/rtic and reply back with your summary

Had the bicycle lock on my 65qt cut within two weeks of moving to SA (lasted 3 years in Houston).

Borrowed my sisters roadie and bicycle locked it in my truck for an upcoming trip. Damn if someone didn't break into my truck and cut the bicycle lock to get that one as well.

Refused to ever own another one after that but then I ended up winning one during the Super Bowl so don't know how I'm going to secure it now.

I just bought my first "overpriced piece of plastic", an RTIC 65 qt cooler, during their recent "super sale" for $139. Looking forward to not having to go for more ice (everyday) when we are at a campground for several days. Convenience is worth something.

I don't even own a big YETI, but still wear the hat. Gotta dress for the brostyle you want, not the brostyle you have.

Does that yeti bracket work with RTIC coolers? Is it just a bent piece of 1/8" steel with a padlock hole in it?

I have a fiberglass tonneau cover, so 1) nobody sees into the bed and 2) I can cable look the cooler, lock the tailgate, and lock the tonneau. If they want it bad enough to break two locks and cut a cable, then props to them for the dedication.

If my ice chests are in the back of the truck I usually have other valuables in the bed as well. So I'll have a passenger stay with the truck if I have to go into a store.

Once at home, the ice chest and other valuables go into the garage and/or house.

I figure if I can minimize the opportunity for theft, I decrease my chances of getting my stuff stolen.
