I've got mole(s) tearing up my horse pasture. Any recommendations to eradicate? I'm originally from West Texas, so I've only had to deal with prairie dogs (and that was usually with a .22).

Buy a couple labradors. They won't get all of them, but at least you'll have huge holes in the ground.

Ask me how I know.....

I do agree with killing the food source, which I would guess is grub worms (June bug larvae). I need to do the same, so I'll watch this thread for a suggestion on what to spray...

I've tried traps and poison with little success. It's faster to just hunt them down if you're only talking a few.

I haven't seen one surface. What is the best way to locate them?

As far as cutting off their food source goes, is there a recommended spray? I may run by the co-op tomorrow and see what is available there.

How bad are they? Back home in La we always just considered them part of the landscape and not bad enough to cause any concern. None of the other farmers ever seemed concerned with them either. Are they actually causing a problem? Id guess if you got rid of every one of them, theyd be back in no time.

They are a pain to deal with when working horses. I'll build my arena this spring so it won't be much of an issue then, but it sucks to ride around them in the meantime - mainly for my wife on a barrel horse.

Spectracide or similar in a broadcast spreader will do a good job on grubs and fire ants.

As for locating, figure out where they are currently active, walk the path compacting the tunnels. Where there is new activity you know where they are. Come back about noon the next day (they are most active about noon to 2:00) with a shovel and a butcher knife.

Ease up on the area because they can hear/feel obvious activity. Look for them digging, you'll see the dirt moving. Then step on the shovel driving it in perpendicular to the tunnel a little way behind them cutting off their escape. Then let your inner Norman Bates out. Or a couple shotgun blasts if outside the city limits.
Repeat as necessary.

Thought it was just me noticing more.

The two Labradorks go to town on the hills.

They are all over my hay pasture.

North Grimes county outside Iola.

I don't know if he'll go as far as Navasota, but I've had some luck with Spackler Rodent Control.

They took care of my gopher problem...which is nice.

I have them in the pasture and don't think much about them. The horses never seem bothered by the holes. It's when they get in the yard around the house that I go hunting.

Had a ton of moles in my pasture in Bowie County. I Adopted a 1 year old male Weimaraner.

That dog hunted moles morning, noon, and night. Best I could tell he would start at the hole with the most recent scent, track them above ground via sound or vibration ( not sue which really). then he would dig straight to them and cut the lights off and leave them. He significantly decreased the population.

Get a Weimaraner!! One of the best hunting dogs I've ever had.

I get them in my back yard every so often. My 2 labs and basset hound then turn a section of my yard into a WWI trench war fare seen.

I have nothing to add here, but I'm heavily considering changing my handle to PastureMole02

It sounds awesome.

Hope you get your problem fixed.
