Who here uses a 5x5 blind and do you find it better than the standard 4x6? How about for 2 hunters? If I remember right 02 uses 5x5 but can't remember what he had to say about them.

I built an 8x8x8 in high school welding class. All out of 1.5" square tubing. It is heavy as all get out.

Haha yeah at first it was because I didn't want to rip any plywood. I could just keep it as the regular 4x8 sheet and cut out the windows. Then I decided to keep it that size because I could camp out in it when I was in HS.

I do 4x8 since all the plywood is already that size. Usually make it 7' tall.

I've always wanted one big enough to hang a hammock in the back. Sounds like your living the dream.

I typically do 4x6, but I have a table saw and a willing wife to help.

Buddy of mine is having one built for him because of time constraints etc. 4x6 and 5x5 are his choices. Either will be 10' high.

IMO, 4x6 is better for a side by side sitting arrangement. Options may depend on if you plan to shoot from both long sides or just one and what kind of chairs you are using.

We use office chairs and I think trying to spin around in a 5x5 would be more difficult. I have a 4x7 or 4x8 and it works great switching sides. And you don't have to adjust forward or back as much as a 5' span.

I have built a lot of blinds and can honestly tell you that the 5x5 or 5x6 is not advantageous over a 4x6. The reason I say this is in a 4x6 your shoot out 3 sides with only rotating your chair, in a 5x5 or 6 you have to move your chair to the far side. It seems like a little thing but it's very aggravating when you're hunting. The advantage to a 5x5 or 5x6 is if mom, dad and child or a parent and two kids are hunting there is a lot more room to maneuver and be comfortable.

5x5 and it's not even close. Especially hunting with a buddy or family member. 4x6 stands suck. We've got 20 stands on our lease and we are down to only 3-4 that are 4x6s. Everybody is slowly replacing all their old fiberglass 4x6s with metal 5x5s (mostly Atascosa blinds). With a decent office chair, you are always banging your knees on the sides when turning. Most of our stands hunt 4 senderos so turning a bit is part of it, unless they were shredded perfectly, to where you can post up in a corner. In that case, sleeping in a 5x5 with your feet propped up on the other side is still better.

i know this wasn't one of your options, but 5x6
the 5' width is awesome, and the 6 ' width allows you to have a little elbow room.

I've been actually building 5x8 blinds so that i can take my two kids, or a friend and his kid and still be comfortable.

My normal stand is 18"x24". My really big stands are 24"x30"

I've built a couple this year, and both of them were 5x5. Lots of room.

5X5 and it's not even close. I hunt 5X5's down south and they're perfect for two people (even if you have to switch sides for a shot.) The main advice I would give is this.

1. Don't make your windows too Big, there's absolutely no need to have windows any bigger than what it takes to easily slide your gun through. Unless you're way off the ground, I have a guy on my lease that has an atascosa blind and I feel like you have to hide in a corner because the windows are so big the deer can spot you moving.

2. When you are building your blind get your floor board in and your walls up, then set a chair in there and mark where where you windows need to be to give you the most comfortable shot.

3. Over brace the floor and make sure to use good screws and you'll have a forever creak free blind.

5X5 fits two well fed men at my lease all the comfortably. Until someone farts..

Coming from a guy who uses a 4x6, my next blind will be a 5x5.

I built a 5 x 7 so that my two boys could hunt with me. They are now 15 and 19 and hunt by themselves. The rib goes with me on occasion and the 5 x 7 has its benefits. However, I am building a new stand for next season because we are moving the big stand to a different area of our lease. My new stand will be 5 x 6. A 5 x 6 will hunt two people comfortably......and still big enough for fringe benefits.

Thats why you're supposed to wear full camo, top to bottom when you hunt from a blind. Everybody knows that...

We've got both 5'x6' and 6'x6' versions of these at our place:

I know they're expensive, but when you're old and busted like I am they're worth every penny! The 6'x6' is like hunting in the GD Taj Mahal. Plenty of room for when the rib wants to come (pun fully intended), and when it's just me I can stretch out and nap. These things are a godsend.

Feel free to hate and e-yell "plywood or GTFO."

I build mine 4x6 because:
1) its a solid piece plywood floor
2) it fits in the bed of the truck and dont need a trailer to move it

I will say the hammock chairs are really nice. They are comfortable and make absolutely no noise when you rotate to look out another window.

I had a 6x6 once. To me it was way too big inside because you get comfortable near one window, then when you want to check outside the opposite window, there is way too much movement required to get over there. You cannot see out the opposite window very well from almost 6 feet away.

I think 5x5 would be perfect. Although as others have stated, those dimensions dont match your lumber very well.

I could see the 4x6 as very good also if you have one direction you never hunt...... you set up your box so you are never using one of those windows that is six feet from the other window..... but you still have good leg stretching room.

Compressed air spray gun, 3 colors, and dead tree branches, that was the easiest part of the whole damn build.
