MFBarnes has to be what we called back in my day "throwed off". Years ago I had a young private in my platoon that told the most elaborate BS stories; He got a psych referral and was diagnosed with this:
"A delusion of grandeur is the fixed, false belief that one possesses superior qualities such as genius, fame, omnipotence, or wealth. It is most often a symptom of schizophrenia, but can also be a symptom found in psychotic or bipolar disorders, as well as dementia (such as Alzheimer's).
People with a delusion of grandeur often have the conviction of having some great but unrecognized talent or insight. They may also believe they have made some important discovery that others don't understand or appreciate.
Less commonly, the individual may have the delusion of having a special relationship with a prominent person (such as being an adviser to the President). Or the person may believe that actually are a very prominent and important person, in which case the actual person may be regarded as an imposter"

Then again he just could be an elaborate troll. I have to admit some of his stuff is LOL funny. The photo of him jamming with Jimmy Vaughn while using SRV's guitar is classic.

What is the back story here?

Gist: poster claimed he had an elaborate setup of tools/equipment in his garage and posted pics of the stuff; TexAgs poster Guitar Soup (I think; or was it Spicewood Ag??) found the posted pics were all on google image search. Busted and made for a roar on here not seen since Listeater (you'll have to get that scoop elsewhere).

I guess I should have taken credit for busting him, keeping with the theme!

Thanks. I see references to "mfbarnes" all the time but never knew what it meant.

Credit goes to Guitarsoup on Automotive. Barnes posted pics of a barn find 1954 Corvette and claimed it was his. That's the "Hidden Treasures" thread. 'Soup is looking for pics of a restored '54 online,to add to the thread, finds the same pics Barnes posted, but from 6 years ago and someone else. After 'Soup called him out on it, I remembered the shop thread on Outdoors. I did a little Google image search and found his workshop was stolen pics, as well.

From there, the wrath of TexxAgs was unleashed on everything he posted here and elsewhere. It was pretty easy because he used the same username on several sites. The high point for me was finding that he posted a review on Amazon for a porn video...and he plagiarized the review. He was also caught claiming to be a PE, professional engineer, and I believe the state board slapped his hand over that.

It was one of the funniest days I recall on TexAgs. I did worry some that he was mentally ill and the outing would cause him to flip out. Maybe folks above are right, he knows he's out as a troll, and enjoys the noteriety. In any case, the sheer volume of fake posts and Photoshopping must have taken him 8-10 hours a day. I don't know about the oil business, but he was certainly the 'hardest working man in TexAgs'.

No but if I do, I'm definitely getting his autograph on the picture of his head shopped on to that body builder. Would be going on my wall in a heartbeat. A day that lives in texags infamy.

IIRC, the coup de grace was him setting up a GoFundMe page or something like that for the family in the Montgomery/Conroe area who lost their home when a gas leak blew up the house and killed some family members and it turned out that the family never saw a dime of the money TexAg'ers donated.

I believe that Bott got involved in that and got most of the money to the family and some returned to Texags posters. I'm not sure if it was 100% of the amount donated.

Mark Barnes is a lying, thieving POS. I'm sure he'll read this soon because you know he can't stay away.

Don't forget about his plagiarized Ph.D. dissertation...and its' M'fing Barnes Ph f'ing D

Also had a wealth of accounts on cam sites like chatbait ...can't remember...it was classic. There is an excel file in existence somewhere that has all of the details. Has family in Bryan, some that worked for Bryan ISD that were totally embarrassed by his escapades....it was a wild time on TexAgs. I thought that he was long gone

Because I'm awake at 2 am - this looks like it was taken from Fender NAMM Gala 2008 where Jimmie Vaughan played with Billy Gibbons. I'm not savvy enough to tell if Barnes painted himself over GE Smith's body or just totally inserted himself into the picture. (Oh, and MFBarnes claims, on his fb page, the pic was taken at the Hard Rock Vegas. NAMM occurs in Anaheim.) MFBarnes: the gift that keeps giving.

So he's a former college football player, college football coach, NFL coach, roughneck with hobbies that include but not limited to woodworking with a bad ass shop, reloading on an insane level that most only dream of, race car driver and plays the guitar with celebs.

His facebook friends must be the most gullible people on earth.
