I've recently inherited a gun safe from my grandfather, and I'm brain storming the best way to get it from his house to mine. His house is in Grimes county and I live in Cypress. How much should I expect to pay if I get a company to move it for me? After assisting in delivering a safe about 1000lb a few years back, I'm much rather someone else do it for me. This one is about 1,300lb.

When I bought mine from academy, I paid about 400 to have it delivered from the store to my house. Mine is in the 6-800 pound range

I would contact a few mom and pop type places that sell and deliver safes ... They will probably do it for a reasonable fee. I think you are going to be looking at spending several hundred dollars no matter what though.

Maybe it's because it's early, but what does that have to do with the OP?

$400 for a local delivery seems insane.

He wanted to know how much he could expect to pay to have someone move it for him.. I gave him a data point on a smaller safe with a price point. I think that's what I did.. I'm half asleep

I get that, but having new merchandise delivered and having personal property moved would differ in costs I would assume.

I'm in Mountain time zone, so my brain isn't fully on yet.

Often safes are moved by a third party and new/move between houses has little impact on price.

I'm expecting it to be several hundred dollars, if I could keep it under $500 for some good folks I'd probably do it. The cheapest I've found the safe for sale is $4,300, so it's worth some money to have moved.

do you know any college kids / do you have a flatbed trailer? me and a buddy were able to move mine using a hand dolly down a flight of stairs. would a gang of college kids move it for you for a few thirty packs and some walking around money?

just a thought

This is probably the worst idea I have ever heard. Moving a 1300lb safe is not like moving a refrigerator. Using experienced people with insurance is the only way to go.

Most hand dollies are rated at 500lbs capacity. Even expensive appliance dollies and stair climbers max out at 800 lbs.

When we moved two of my grandfather's 700 or so lb safes, it was enough of a chore for three of us grown men and a serious dolly. I'd much rather pay the money and have someone who does this on a regular basis.

What are some companies in Houston I should check with? I'd like to go with a reputable company, as long as I can keep the price reasonable.

IIRC Griffin Locksmith moved a gun safe and had a special baby trailer for moving it. Don't know the cost though

Funny you mention them; we actually bought the safe from Griffen and I believe my aunt is getting a quote from them today since she's the one that originally dealt with them.

Hire someone to load it onto the trailer in CS.

You drive it to your house.

Hire someone to move it from your trailer to inside your house in Houston.

Paying someone to go back and forth will get expensive due to miles and time.

The OP mentions College Station - Burrett and Sons are always out delivering safes. They may not load and deliver safes that they haven't sold, but might point you towards a good loader/freight company in college station.

I know... One can likely buy at least one Adele ticket for that amount....

Moved mine with a penske truck wit ha tommy lift and 4 guys. Was quoted anywhere from $250-$400 for a local moved abut 8 miles away.

If you're not going to do it yourself, call Moore Security here in Houston to get a quote. It's a father/son company that is Liberty's Platinum dealer here in Houston. I bought a safe from them a few months ago and the owner was telling me he moves safes all over the state for previous customers and to ranches owned by people that live in Houston. From what we were talking about their rates were pretty reasonable. I've already talked to them about moving mine when I move and it's a $250 cost in the Houston area.

Being they are coming out of The Woodlands to BCS, you might be able to get a local rate. They have specialized dolly's and trailers to move it with, and the owner is going to move it himself with his own employees, most likely his dad, not a contract crew.

Honestly speaking, the last thing I would do is hire four laborers and rent a truck here in town to move it unless you want it stolen a week later....

Penske also charges by the mile, think it was .80 per mile. Wasn't bad at all really. They weren't laborers, my son and three of his friends. They are young and i am old lol

I talked with Josh earlier, and I'm planning on having the safe picked up/delivered next Wednesday. Thanks for the recommendation; this was the only quote I've received that was within my budget and he seems to be a really nice guy.

No problem, glad it worked out. Josh is who delivered mine, he's a good dude and it was super easy and efficient on getting it done.
