Ok TexAgs! We have just under 9 acres of land, while we are waiting for the bank to start construction I thought I would get a jump on clearing the land. I'm doing all by chainsaw and sweat, until the bank gives us the thumbs up.

My question is....I can't find a pair of glove that are worth a darn. The all leather gloves seem very thin. I just purchased a new pair and feel like they will crap out in just a few days. Any recommendations?

Why would anyone want deer or goats skin gloves?

Thanks Ags!

It would suck in the summer time, but a pair of welding gloves might be worth a shot in the cooler months. They are very think and reach about half way up your forearm.

My carhartt do fine. Thick leather. Mechanix gloves suck....lasted 3 months.

They make thicker gloves that cost a lot more and last a little longer but depending on what you are doing you may lose dexterity.
I'm more inclined to have a dozen or two pair from Tractor Supply or Harbor Freight fairly cheap disposables.
Then it doesn't hurt my feelings when I wear a hole in the finger after a few days.

Tillman and Co. Anti vibe gloves FTW.

This type of leather glove is very common in commercial construction. Will stand up to some good use and cheap to replace.

I buy the harbor freight ones. Always have a half dozen or so in: 1. Truck toolbox 2. Workbench 3. Tractor 4. Mule. Theyre soo damn cheap, buy a bunch. If you sweat like I do you usually dont want to put them on after a good hard day anyway.

Churchill makes a good work glove. I've been through countless pairs of the insulated Elk Skin, never worn out a pair of the unlined deer skin.

Don't get buckskin. The leather will not last very long, although they are very comfortable to wear.

I stole a pair from my brother a couple of years ago that I've like a lot. They are Memphis Mustang brand.

The deer/goat skin gloves are usually called drivers, meaning they arent meant for yanking on briars and barbed wire and rough bark.

There's a whole new world of gloves out there besides leather. Never was a big fan of them. When leather prices went up and they were 6 bucks a pair I switched. Depends on what you're doing, but I buy cut level 5 (highest you can get besides chain mail) for the same price as leather and I think they are much more comfortable.

I now understand why so many people on this board hunt high fence places with big fancy lodges, and only hire full service guides when they leave home. It's not because they're lazy and don't want to put in work. It's because they can't live without their callous free, soft ass hands that they use to drink from their tiny china cups with their little pinky sticking out...

JeebusChrist what a bunch of weirdos. Grab some damn sack and go work. You do know if you just man up and do what needs to be done you'll grow calluses and then *voila*, man hands. It doesn't require fancy gloves with special materials. Hands. Grit. Man up. That's it.

Can you imagine reading GatorAg's Alaska hunt thread and picture him saying, and after I dumped my raft and 1000 pounds of bison into the frozen river I climbed onto the bank, put on my driest wool clothes and then immediately dragged out my special gloves so that I could get my wits about me!

HELL. NO.

Truth is most gloves are the suck. I'll buy a pair and work until they are full of holes, then work without gloves until I think about it the next time I'm at the feed store. I'm pretty hard on gloves, it's nothing to have a few holes in a pair in a day, swinging a hammer or stretching barbed wire really takes its toll.

You ever built or torn down a barbed wire fence? Or clear mesquite from a fenceline?

I'm an anti glover too. Just use your hands they'll heal in time. I hate to lose the dexterity. Just something else for me to lose, unless it's my thermal gloves at work they stay strapped just under my chin so I know when I pull my coat on if they are there or not, and thus need to steal the drivers gloves, because we all know he'll be wearing some fancy (mechanix, deer skin, anti vibe extrication etc.) to pull those tiny little levers with his one tanned left arm.

I laughed but I will wear the hell outta some leather gloves. Between band wire, locust and hedge thorns, and poison ivy I'm a fan of gloves.

I drug three dead steers off today. One had been in a tank for a few days.

I used my gloves like a nancy boy.

I'm with you, just reread your hilarious post and saw a good application for it.

For the record, I agree with the poster who just grabs what they see on the shelf and throw them out when they're too messed up

I understand the no glove on the bear claws and everything, hell in I hate wearing gloves. However, in my line of work as an Executive chef that's the last thing you want. If I can't use my hands to chop I can't feed my family.

I hate having to buy things over and over because of quality. I want one pair of good gloves that last awhile. Just because I get a hole in one doesn't stop me from working, keep on trucking until the job is done or dinner time.
Sean98

I don't know what "a while" means to you, but if you have a pair of leather gloves that lasts for a long time then you might not be doing work that requires leather gloves.

I know I'm often an ass, but I'm not even trying to be here. It's just that barbed wire, sheet metal, tin siding and bois d'arc trees are hard on things. They WILL tear up a pair of gloves. ...but better that than my hands. I'm not worried about blisters so much when I opt for gloves as I am avoiding cuts, scratches, punctures, and bleeding.
