I read up on this quite a bit while deciding what I wanted, and I decided to just bite the bullet and buy the Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 and it's basically amazing.

And the $80 Vortex cantilever mount is very light and works perfectly...I wanted everything to match.

Same manufacturer and nearly the same scope... the Strike Eagle has better coatings on it. Otherwise, the main difference is the reticle and it's a pick your poison sort of deal. Vortex has the better warranty.

Have the primary 1-4x on my .300blk SBR. Holds zero and for 0-100yd shots has been plenty of glass.

I do have a used Viper PST in an american defense mount chilling in store if anyone is interested. 1-4x and the mount is a quick release. $499 scope, $250 mount... it's used so $500 total.

I was choosing between the two an picked the PA scope. The reticle is better, IMO

I looked at both, but looks it like you can get a better scope in a Trijicon Accupower 1x4 for around 800 bucks, if that works with your budget. I am planning to get one for my sbr.

Eyeguy, do you have a price for an accupower 1x4 in moa or mil?
