I've got a POS Ryobi that's been chugging away for 5 years now. Pretty sure with Ryobi, you buy a battery and you get to choose what tool comes with it. If you look at the replacement cost of the battery, the tool comes out to be about 20 bucks.
I went to go buy a new battery and ended up buying a second drill (with charger and batter7) cause it only cost 9 dollars more on sale

I know Dewalt is supposed to be some of the best, but I'd put my cheap pos ryobi drill against the same level Dewalt at half the price any day.

your ryobi would lose bad. Dewalt, Bosch, Milwaukee tools and batteries run circles around ryobi when they're used for more than regular house hold honey-dos.

No problem with buying electric, but do those who hate ethanol gas know what Sta-bil is?

I stabilize every drop of gas that isn't going into my truck and have had zero problems due to ethanol. That is on Boats, jet skis, mowers, trimmers, 4 wheelers, etc. I put it in everything because you never know when something may end up not getting use and its just easier to not ever worry about what kind of gas you have.
Yes and I use it now, but these electrics are really pretty salty compared to the old ones.

My mower was pushing 10 years old and was going need a good bit of work. Drive system refurbished, muffler bolt broke off in the block, and at least two years of ethanol gas with no Sta-bil. Wife bought the gas while I was mowing and did not go to our "no ethanol" station. I now Sta-bil everything and never ask her to get gas anymore.

5 year warranty on the 80V from Lowes, and 3 year warranty on the batteries. I figured I would give it a shot, and so far so good.

Electric motors are much more reliable than internal combustion engines. Take good care of the battery and you shouldn't have any issues.
Not to be contrary but my Echo has NEVER failed me...especially with the new fuel they sell. (no mixing)

I bought my Echo Weedeater from Home Depot (the cheapest model they have) 10 years ago when I bought my first house. I have never taken care of it. It has sat every winter with the same old gas (no Sta-Bil) in it. It has been flawless......until this past weekend when it wouldn't start.

Im going to try and fix it fix it / clean it, but if it doesn't work, I'll probably still go the Lithium Ion route.
I like the idea of not having to screw with mixing fuel. The troubles of starting in cold weather. Letting it warm up.
Echo makes a battery powered weedeater that has a lot of really good reviews.

Perhaps because my Echo gas equipment has always been so solid, I recently bought an Echo cordless trimmer to replace my 20+ year old Echo gas trimmer. The cordless power head takes the same attachments as their split shaft gas models. I was pleasantly surprised it has no trouble driving the stick edger attachment. One 4 Ah battery will trim and edge my entire corner lot.

I agree with the poster above: gas tools are not long for the consumer market.

PineTreeAg - that's the one I've had for about three months and it has been great so far.

I went the electric trimmer too, a 40V B&D off amazon that was highly rated. So far so good.

Gas-powered tools are such a PITA. Between trying to start them, keeping track of oil:gas ratios, needing to discard old gas, etc., I prefer electric when it can provide enough power for a long enough period.

I ran outta gas by the time the battery hit 50%.

I know what you mean. This is why I like the idea of knowing that the battery charge doesn't last too long.... Break Time comin up!

Wait till you're 62. Sometimes you will wonder if you even have any gas in the tank.
Wait until you're 81 and you will not have to wonder if there is any gas in the tank!

Bump

I'm in the market for a new weedeater, and I'd prefer to go the cordless/battery route. But even the top rated models have a few terrible reviews mixed in.

This is my top candidate for the time being..

When I bought mine (80 volt) I was concerned about the reviews. Everything has some bad reviews and you just have to read as much as possible to judge which reviews are just BS. In my judgement, the reviews have the 80 volt and the 56 volt to be very similar.... mostly good with a few bad reviews.

Not that it matters much, but my 80v is now two months old and still no problems. I remember most of the "bad" reviews were about battery life "I should have bought two batteries", etc. Battery life is what it is and if it suits you, fine, and if not, then buy another battery!

This is why I like discussing this kind of stuff on TexAgs. A little more personal, and I feel more accurate than random online reviews.

I just bought the 58v Echo trimmer and mower, and am extremely eager to try it out this week. I'll report back once I get a few uses out of it.

I bought an Ryobi Connexion b/c it was a good deal on sale for a battery powered string trimmer and it was ok. I then was looking for an edger, and realized I could just replace the head and have a nice edger too... it works like a champ for edging and weed eating my yard... i love not having to get that extension cord out.

Has anyone had any luck with a electric mower? I'm not in the market yet...
