Have USAA for insurance. They want serial numbers, etc for insurance. Obviously, I'd rather not give out that info. Only cover up to 2K on regular insurance.

Any ideas about other companies that offer firearm insurance? Experiences?

Oh, forgot, all my firearms fell in the bottom of the lake.

I have mine insured through the NRA program. No Serial #s required unless a gun is valued over $3000. You don't even have to itemize your guns except those valued over $3000.

Ok, thanks for the info. I'll check out both for those guns in the lake.

I use USAA as well and when they asked for serial numbers for a valuable property policy, I decided if just take my chances with them in the safe.

I'm NOT going to have that list with any third party.

I use travelers. Don't have to provide serial numbers or any specific info.

You can't beat ArmsCare through the NRA. It's cheaper than any other insurance company, doesn't require a schedule of guns or serial numbers and includes attached accessories (scopes, etc).

I checked with Allstate since I have my auto and renters insurance with them, but to cover my guns it was going to be crazy expensive and they wanted a list of all the guns and serial numbers. I also checked with Amica since I have my life insurance through them. They were twice as much as Allstate, required a serialized list and won't cover certain types of guns (AR's being one of them).

Maybe you've done this, but you might want to verify with Travelers that you're covered for theft or loss for the full value of your guns. With Allstate I was only covered for $2500 and only fire was covered. To get more coverage or to get them covered for theft they required a serialized list.

I used to mistakenly think the firearms were covered as personal property and therefore went years without sufficient protection, but most companies only cover up to a certain amount unless you pay for additional coverage and provide a list. Maybe Travelers is different, but it's worth double checking.

My base is 2500 or whatever. I have an additional policy for firearms. Also have an additional policy for jewelry for some of our smaller items. Insured the larger ones individually with jewelers mutual.

I have all mine in a personal articles policy with state farm along with my electronics and DSLR camera, Dirt cheap, no deductible, covers all value (As you set the value of each item when you get the policy).

With USAA personal articles Insurance (guns, cameras, jewlrey etc) I think you can sign up and they would like to have information on the items insured (purchase receipt, pictures, serial #, etc.). However, I think you can generally describe the items and then if something happens, show proof of ownership at that time. So you may be able to take some pictures of your receipts and insured items and put them in a safety deposit box for a claim if anything happens. That way, you can just get coverage for $XX,000 of generally labeled items and then produce details when you file a claim.

Save the money you would spend on insurance, and instead get a GOOD safe, and an alarm system for your house.

Eh, I have a good safe, a home security system, and insurance. I've had the insurance for a few years and the cost still isn't enough to equal the price of the safe.

Also, my insurance covers the firearms outside the house. So if I'm driving to the lease and someone breaks into the car and steals them, etc. Doesn't just cover home theft or fire.

This. I have a safe and insurance. Just had a gun stolen from a vehicle and all I did was call them give them the police report number and had my money within a day. USAA.
