Savage 16/116 vs Browing X-Bolt .308

So looking to get a .308 deer rifle.

Already have a vortex 4-16, so no need for a package deal.

The Savage FCCS seems to be in the same neighborhood as an X-bolt medallion.

This will be my main rifle for years to come, so I'd like to make the right choice the first time.

I currently have an X-Bolt and an A-Bolt and love them both. My father has a few savages but has noticed some inconsistency from one to the next. One will be great and the next will not group well and needs work. I have had the same issues with Ruger.

Probably not the particular model you are looking at but man is that Browning X Bolt Medallion White Gold (the one with a wood stock and stainless barrel) a purdy rifle......I almost bought one a few years back.

I know you don't need the scope, but one of my distributors is running a deal for the browning xbolt, ACS case, and a leupold vx-1 3-9x40 that I can do for $749.

Both the browning and most of the savages also have a rebate right now.

I've got the stainless barrel with walnut stock on an X-Bolt .243 and boy-oh-boy is it a purdy setup. Did take a while to find the VX2 4-12x50 in the silver finish to round out the stainless look.

Also, IIRC the X-bolt uses it's own rings. Think I had to order them from Browning.

Xbolt Hunter with 22" barrel. Synthetic stock and blued metal.

Not quite the same quality rifle but as an FYI I picked up a ruger American .308 at wal mart today for $217 after tax. Sticker still said $378 but had apparently been marked down and not re-tagged. My buddy picked up a 30-06 and .243 as well for same.
