I have a 2016 Hobie outback. My dad wanted to try it out and his first morning sight casted and nailed a slot red in skinny water. Now he's hooked on this kayak thing. He wants to keep using it, but he may not have the stamina to paddle for long periods of time.
I don't keep much behind me so i have room for a good sized deep cycle.

So allow the tap the brain trust to make the best decision!!!!

What kind of mounting options do I have for a short shank trolling motor?

Can I mount it behind the rudder?

Will any mounting option allow me to keep the skinny water versatility of the outback?

Is 55lbs thrust to big?

I also don't need the trolling motor to move as I should be able to control the direction of the kayak with my rudder?

The second you put a trolling motor, you need to register and title the boat and motor. Keep that in mind.

Outside of that, I have exactly zero valuable input on the rest of your questions.

Slightly off topic, but I saw a guy with a foot pedal powered tandem hobie on the bay this weekend. One of the guys I was fishing with made a comment/asked the question why the guy had his young son (prob 6or7) on the the back. I responded that the kid was likely the trolling motor.

I'd get something wider without peddles and add a trolling motor.

Ride 135 or something along those lines.

Have you looked on the Google machine? There are several images and links to kayak motor setups. Might give you some good ideas based on your needs.

There is a guy out of Conroe that makes Trolling motors for Hobie's. They drop in to the spot where the pedals sit.

this is looking very promising. i'll just mount it far enough back that i can clear the rudder and forget about the extension arm and just use the rudder control

There was a high dollar kayak at Cabela's today that had an integrated trolling motor in the middle of the kayak with a rudder in the back.

Seemed pretty slick.
