Do any of you give your dogs glucosamine and chondroitin as a preventative? If so, what do you give them? I have a 3 year old lab that is healthy and I want him to stay that way if I can help it. I've had labs in the past that have had joint problems and it was not fun. Thanks for the input.

we adopted a 10 month old yellow lab this past thanksgiving that the agency thinks had her ankle broken while she was a stray and the break grew back together a little off because one of her legs/paw has a strange angle to it.

Our vet said there was not anything he could do for the leg but he gave us dasuquin as a joint health supplement

I do not think she is in pain because she runs like the wind but on occasion she will limp some on that leg and when she does something that we do not approve of and we scold her, she reminds us that she has a "hurt" paw

My German Shepherd developed a little hitch with a front leg at age 11. My vet recommended a supplement. The hitch went away after a month or so on the supplement. At one point, I ran out and in the few days before I got the shipment from Amazon, you could see the hitch coming back.

Here's what I would order on Amazon.

I take fish oil myself for my joints. I bet it'd work for dogs

We've been giving our 60lb Weimaraner and lab a capsule each of fish oil and glucosamine/chondoirtin with each meal for the last year or so after it was suggest by our vet. They are 7 and 6, respectively.

This is what our vet recommended.

Phycox

Sometimes different sellers on amazon will have it cheaper. We have given it to our lab mix daily for several years. Not sure if it's made a difference or not. He now has signs of cushings and is on daily pain killers to prevent him from limping so much.

Our dogs get fish oil. We started giving it to them for their coats but our vet says it's good for joints too.

Have seen good results with phycox and cosequin/dasuquin.

Has anyone given phycox to a dog with a sensitive stomach? Dasuquin makes my boxer drip like a faucet due to an upset stomach. I've tried some other joint type treats that seem to cause the same problem.

I did phycox & adequan injections for my older Shepherd mix.
Definitely helped a lot.

Adequan injections are huge in helping with joint health in my opinion. I recommend this product more than any other.

It is still not proven that dogs can metabolize and use the chondroitin...but the glucosamine is what really helps. I used to get the pill in 500 mg and by the huge container really cheap on the net. No idea hoe expensive it is now.

We give our German shepherd Cosequin and it has made a huge difference. Highly recommend.

I supplemented my two Westies when they were older. They both seemed to respond well into their old ages. My son has a rescue ridgeback mix that is a tripod, The Vet recommended supplements because of the repeated impacts to the remaining shoulder.

Well I was gonna give it to my 3 year old lab as a preventative. He doesn't have any problems. Is it not necessary or should I wait until he gets older?

Could be not worth the money right now. But it certainly will not hurt him. Takes a while for it to start taking effect. I have heard both that it works fairly quick to taking over 3 wks to see improvement.

This or dasuquin, which is the newer product from the same company. They are by far the best products on the market for joint issues. They have been for a while.

Well, if you want something to supplement joints for your dog, I suppose you could use edibles as a delivery method. It took me 6 months to teach Rover how to use a bong.
