Well since you're 6'7" and 2.8 biscuits, I'd say you're gonna stuck out in just about any crowd anyway. Might as well just go ahead and get a palm leaf hat from Sunbody off the Internet. Being that big, nobody is gonna question your choice of headwear anyway.

I can't recommend a summer hat of the style you want, but I can make a recommendation for a winter hat. Take a look at the hats by Filson. They are made quite well, and will most likely fit you as well. They are too heavy for summer wear, unless you need to sweat out a bunch of weight through the top of your noggin.....

Straw cowboy hat

If you are looking for a good sun hat, try Tilley. You can cram it in a suitcase, throw it in the wash, and just generally abuse it and it will still look and fit fine.

They also fit better than most because they are properly sized.

American Hat Company makes the best straw hats on the market. They come uncreased so you can shape the crown and brim how you like it. I would recommend a 4.5" or 5" brim for a guy your size.

Check out stetson Sturgis. Not overly expensive and it looks nice. It's crushable wool so hot a **** for summer.

I do hAve a couple of nice straw hats but for working outside...the straw one from Mexico I bought at walmart 15 years ago is the best.

Really depends on the look you want and it's purpose.

I hate hats. I only wear one when working outside because I hate sunburns and skin cancer worse. I have one like the one below, I call it my ugly hat. Won't win any beauty contests, but it's light, blocks the sun, collapses into a small area when I don't need it, and washes when dirty.

I don't like straw, as they don't hold up - I get Orvis fishing straw hats about once a year, but I wouldn't pay more than $100 for one - the Orvis run about $60, I think

If it's rainy where you live, straw are even more pointless.

The hat maker in Lockhart wears this funky top hat bowler hybrid, with grommets in a cross pattern on the top.

Something with grommets and without a lining might be good.

Inexpensive straw Cowboy hats are at Buc-ee's. Low quality, but priced acordingly.

Not sure what they put on my straw hat from walmart but it's 15 years old and it's been in plenty of rainstorms and the put on a table, on the brim to dry....it's still shaped like it was when I bought it. Sometimes fancy hats aren't all that.

6'5" and unfortunately I tip the scales at 3bills....love my Palm leaf cowboy hat but the wife only allows me to wear it when I'm working in the yard (2 acres in the middle of a corn field)

I'm hair challenged AND fair skinned. Outdoors = hats or headwear; no exceptions. I know you said more cowboy type, but in case you want a more detailed cap rundown, here it is:

On morning runs, I sometimes wear a running cap. I like the Headsweats caps, but Brooks, Asics, and a few others make quality caps. I also wear Buff headwear. I have about 12-15 Buffs, including some for other uses like hunting (black; camo, etc.). Most of the Buffs I have are the UV Buffs, which I recommend unless you need a color or style that doesn't come in UV. The American flag is a good example -- I almost got one for our July 4th parade today where I played in a band on a float. Anyway, all these caps are washable so sweating in them heavily is no problem. Just wash on delicate and hang dry. The Buffs you can wash with your other workout stuff on hot. If it is really hot outside and middle of the day, I might wear a Buff under a cap. I'm not much on the wide brimmed jobs.

For hiking, hunting, etc., I wear a little more structured cap -- still a synthetic but something you'd get at REI or Cabelas. Columbia is one brand but there are others. You can still wash these after wearing them. Notice, cleaning is a big concern for me as I sweat profusely.

For most other purposes, I wear a casual, cotton golf style cap -- Aggie related if possible. I don't wear ball caps much anymore. The recent ones I've bought aren't that comfortable. Anyway, I don't order caps as I don't know about fit. Like the OP, I wear a large size. Under Armour makes pretty decent caps that I have worn. I used to like Lids caps, but that brand (if it still exists) got too small.

I picked up a straw Stetson Open Road for outdoor activities this summer. Have been very happy with it so far and it since I'm not very "country" it doesn't make me feel "all hat no cattle" with its style.
