Has anyone ever bought elephant skin boots in Mexico and brought them back to the US? Are there any legal issues involved in the process?

Maybe just wear them on the trip over?

Aren't elephant boots legal? I know you can get some funky stuff in Mexico that you can't bring over like sea turtle and Anaconda, but I think elephant should be ok.

Um, no. I'm wearing a pair of Larry Mayhan elephant boots right now. Made in Nocona, Texas.

For a while they were illegal for some reason, but have since been deemed ok.

If you want a matching elephant hide belt, thebeltman.net sells them. I have one of his horsehide belts and it's awesome.

Rios of Mercedes has a pair I have been saving up for, they are still legal.

Not illegal to my knowledge. My wife gave me a pair of elephant skin Lucchese's for Christmas last year.

Instead of going through customs on the way back, just walk around it and jump the fence.

Have a pie of Anderson Bean elephant skins, they're my favorite boots and yes they're legal here.

I had a pair of elephants custom made earlier this year. The guy told me he just ordered the material from Tandy Leather.

I'm not sure whether it's legal, but I can vouch for the leather. I have a pair that I've had for almost 25 years and have resoled them more times than I can count. You cannot wear them out.

That's what I have heard. Buddy of mine was passed along a pair from his dad and between the two of them they have worn those things for decades

I bought a pair of Sea Turtle boots in Mexico about 10 years ago before things got bad in Mexico with the cartels. Walked across with my dad and brother wearing a pair of throw away sandals, bought the Turtle boots and walked back across wearing them. The store owner put some dirt/mud on them on the heels and other areas to make them look worn and not new. He said no one would ever even look. I thought my dad was going to have a heart attack on the way back since he was convinced we would get caught so I made him cross ahead of me with my brother. Bought a few small items to bring back across as well and walked right through. No one ever looked or asked.

I bought some vintage pre-ban Justin sea turtle boots on Ebay but people must have had tiny feet back then. I couldn't get my foot halfway into the size 10Bs.

I knew a guy that wore croc skin boots thru customs on his way home from Africa. He declared several small items but didn't mention the boots.
