We are trying to recover a Bermuda/St Augustine lawn from a home we purchased last fall. I was late to the pre-emergent party and have a weed problem.
What can I put out that will work on both St Augustine and Bermuda but also safe under and around our Magnolia, Live and Red Oak trees? In certain sections there are 15'x15' patches of solid burs and sticktights. I spent four hours picking about 4'x12' and the limited Bermuda underneath is bouncing back, but my lower back is not. I could pull the thistle easily.
Some of this is growing all by its lonesome because the previous owners had not watered from close through the 4 weeks we had our leaseback (about 7 weeks during Aug-Sept). The side by our neighbor, we are on a corner and only one neighbor, recently laid St Augustine and there is a wide swath of bare black gumbo soil I am hoping his creeps into. We now have an irrigation system and it's on a healthy water schedule.
Fertilizer recommendations?
Herbicide recommendations?
