Red River, Big Jake, Rio Bravo, The Searchers, and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance are my personal favorites.... but I will pretty much watch any JW movie that happens to be on.
My wife's aunt hates Bruce Dern to this day for killing Mr. Anderson.
I remember watching the movie in a middle school class and thought it was one of the greatest things I've ever watched. Still a top 5 movie of all time for me.

Dern was hated by lots of people and believed that scene damaged his career.

Great movie. One of those you can watch every time it comes on.
The summer before my last year @ A&M I took Life & Literature of the Southwest as an English elective with some friends.
Over the course of the short session we made some more friends in that class and had a pretty good time. At the end of the term my rommate and I hosted a 'Cowboys' party at our apartment. Everyone dressed up as a character. Jebediah won the best costume drink. He was not black, at least not before he got in costume. Think Tropic Thunder. Good times.

I believe it was either the premier showing or within a day or two of the release.
It was at the Majestic Theatre in downtown SA, we were staying at the St. Anthony hotel, still remember like yesterday. Like many of those quotes, I still use them, here are 2 of my favorites.
JW -"You fellas oughta go down to the general store and pick you up one of them Engersol watches.They won't lose more'n a minute a month and you can't break'em with a hammer!"
Ranch Hand - "yessir Mr. Andersen, I know we're late."
JW - "YOU'RE 2 HOURS LATE!"
JW- "Smell that?, been smellin' that for 40 year, never could get used to it!"
Mrs Andersen - "I'll think of you every night when I go to bed"
