Springfield Armory, Inc is just a trademarked name and not the original government Springfield Armory. Springfield Armory, Inc just applies the trademarked name to the weapons they import.

From Wikipedia:

"The motto used by the company, "The First Name in American Firearms" (alternatively "The Oldest Name in American Firearms"), is a homage to the first U.S. national armory and namesake, the original Springfield Armory.[3] There is no other connection between the company and defunct federal armory."

I like Springfield but it has no relation to the original armory.

Does it really matter in the end?

No because I love my XD. Not super hot on my A1 anymore though.

Fido and others that feel that it carries a certain name are entitled to feeling that its not for them because it is not up to par, or innovative, or frankly appealing. To each there own.

Lots of folks were ticked at Sig for branding the M11A1 a P228 when it is not.
