looking to replace original (carbine length) with alum. pic quad rails without breaking the bank. Any recs on brand. Would like to keep it under $100.

Not sure you can get a free-float in that price range, so you're looking at a drop-in rail.

Do you have a front sight post? Do you want the handguard to be carbine length like the original?

I've got a cool handguard in stock that mounts to the delta ring... much more popular than the quad rail. It's a modular design with picatinny rails that you can move where you want. Much more comfortable. I'll try to get pics... been saying that for two days but battery for the DSLR is jacked.

I would be interested in what that looks like. I guess drop in is what I'm looking for. Not sure exactly what free float is. Just want to pull down the delta ring, rip off the two original halves, and slap in the new one with rails so I can attach lights and grip. Midway has a quad aluminum one for about $65.

I'm guessing that's a UTG one at Midway?

It's definitely not optimum, but for <$100 might be your best bet, depending on what EyeGuy has for you.

Yeah that's the one I was looking at. Thanks. And I've learned that drop-in is what I'm looking for. This Bushmaster is the patrolmans carbine and is about 8 years old but sure shoots good. I want to set it up as a home defense gun with light and grip.

I've got a NCSTAR drop in that I'd part ways with cheap, I went ahead and put a free floater on mine and thought it was well worth it. I'm located in Dallas.

I've got one of these almost brand new I'll sell you for $100:

Comes with barrel nut. You'll need a low-profile gas block, if your rifle doesn't already have one.

Might reconsider the quad rail....much more comfortable options out there

Matrix Arms has a line of free-float handguards that are ridiculously affordable, both in quad rail and keymod form. I was pretty leery at first. But there are multiple threads on different gun forums about them, and they seem to get good reviews. The only issue that kept arising is the fact that they are small ID handguards, so you have to make sure your gas block fits. I went ahead and picked one up for my SBR build. It comes in today. We'll see if it like it or not.

Depending on what your gas block setup is and how much modification you want to do, these may or may not work for you.

Anybody on here have experience with these guys?

Now you guys are getting over my head. Just a drop in is what I need. No smithing involved. I'm an old geezer.

I know you said quad rail, but have you considered the Magpul slim line?
https://www.magpul.com/products/moe-sl-hand-guard-carbine-length
It will drop right in place of the factory hand guard and it provides you with a little more "real estate" to place your hands and it accepts M-Lok attachments for things like vertical grips, lights, etc.

Now that looks pretty cool, but at that cheap price, are they heavy duty enough? I've got several Magpul mags and they have been great.

I'd personally go with the Magpul SL model if I were to keep the delta ring and gas block/front sight. Next I'd look at thr ALG Defense handguards. Full quad rails are sharp edged and heavy.

Yes Magpul furniture is as sturdy as the magazines!

I have a drop in Surefire rail you can have. Cerakote dark earth. Low mileage.

Just sitting in a box of AR parts.

I bought the "Charlie" version for my SBR build. Showed up yesterday evening.

Here's what I have on my 6.8. Love it. Lightweight, durable and works with the front sight base.
