Buddy of mine had a pair of pliers that he used easily to break the neck but I can't seem to find them anywhere (checked academy, Bass Pro, Simmons, TP) . I can't even get a clear idea from Google. Does anyone know a brand or where I can find a similar tool?

Grab head...swing and twist.

That's how we'd finish off upland birds. Didn't realize there was a tool other than hands.

Growing up we raised chickens for sanderson farms (~180,000 at a time) and we found the absolute best tool for culling wounded/sick/runts to be a sand wedge. I imagine a good sand wedge would be equally effective on waterfowl.

Small birds- gun in left hand, bird in right, smack back of head on the rib of your gun. Big ducks- hold gun between legs, both hands on bird. Of course a tree or the side of a boat will work too if they are handy. The key is use a swift swing and hit the back of the skull. Much better than trying to ring their necks or any other way Ive seen.

Yeah that's how we finish them as well. Those pliers were a bit less effort and I'm all about taking the lazy way out.

I'll give this a shot this weekend.

More accurate shooting?

I usually just squeeze mine.

Bashing skulls on gun stock is what I've done since I was little. Seen too many become separated from their bodies when necks get rung.

Or do it the coonass way and crush their skulls with your teeth.

Quit being a pansy and bite the head. Works every time.

I don't know how many times I heard that from my coonass uncle. Never recall seeing him do it, though.

I've done it more times than I care to admit. Trying to be a hardass. Wouldn't recommend. Although, it does work.

If you really want a way to dispatch crippled birds then buy The Finisher. Hangs from your lanyard.

OP, you're talking about The Eradicator. Never had one or seen one but I'm sure it works. However, the last thing that I want when duck hunting is something else in my pockets.

No dice on Mack's website so I couldn't tell you where to get one.

With doves I just pull the head completely off. The decapitated head is useful for throwing at your hunting buddies or as a dashboard ornament for them. With ducks, usually just bang their heads on a hard surface like everyone else.

I was excited for pictures of hunting dogs or new shotguns...

just grab 'em by the head and swing it around.

Is there an I-phone APP for that?

Google cervical dislocation. It's easy and quick. I've done it with everything from dove to turkeys.

I was wondering why I ended up with a headless quail

If you're going to mount the bird, place it breast up on the ground. Place the palm of your hand over the breast and press down firmly. You'll crush the lungs and it's lights out for the duck. You don't run the risk of damaging the neck or head that way...

Agreed. My taxi would kill me if I dislocated a bird and then brought it to him. Makes it very difficult to skin the head. Compression asphyxiation is far and away the best method to finish a bird if you want to mount it.

Would you have to use a steel golf club?

The Finisher is the way to go. The "just swing em by the neck" crowd has not seen it used.

If you're in layout boats or layout blinds and knock 5 or 6 birds out of a group, you're not going to be able to stand up to wring each birds neck that the dog brings back. You can finish the cripples so they don't swim off, especially when the next wave of birds is on the way, without having to get out of your blind.

This is just one example of a time it's better to use it. Ever try wringing the neck of a 12 lb greater? It's not that easy.

You don't have to go buy the Finisher. Just find the right size wire and twist a piece of it on your lanyard.
