How long do you want to ignore this user?
Looking to join a private gun club locally vs doing a public range membership.

Anyone know of any in my area?

Fort Worth Trap and Skeet on the west side if you are looking for shotgunning. They don't have any rifle or pistol ranges.

I hate them btw. I literally drove by that building one day and thought it would make a great spot for a gun/archery store and indoor range. A month later they announce it.

I was a member for years, but let it lapse this year because I don't do much shooting these days.
It is an outdoor range with 25-200 yard positions plus a falling plate setup and pistol area. They do indoor air pistol as well.

Here I am about to move in a month and have lived in the same place for over 2 years, never knew that place was there! It's 5 minutes from my townhouse downtown......

Haha, do you have a share for sale? I'd be all over it. I went and looked at the Haltom pistol club facility and it's more than adequate, but they have no clays.

The price of the shares is worth it to get clays. Mostly for the wife. It would keep me at the club more often for sure.

Arlington Sportsman Club. A little further south but a nice club. Clays. Five stand Skeet Trap Rifle and pistol ranges of various distances. Lots of competitions. I've been a member for many years and have enjoyed it. They have a web site

that is a bit of a drive, but could maybe do it to have clays. What is the guest policy?

Never had a chance to shoot at the Grand Prairie club, but I've taught a number of Hunter Ed instructor CE classes there. Seems like a nice place.

It is private and there is a wait list.

I don't know what the initiation fee is now but I'm fairly certain its $10,000 or a little more.

The clay tournys are once a month and open to the public. Nominal cost and their web site gives the dates

I mean can members bring guests to shoot and how many? If I can't get in to grand prairie soon then i think Arlington Sportsman would be the choice.

Yes, you can bring guests, but there is a limit on how many times you can bring the same guest during the year. I don't know if there is a rule on the number you can bring on any one day, but I and others have brought more than one on the same day without issue. You'll need to verify.

I think we have a winner. Guess I need to come out for a competition and see if I can drum up some sponsors.

One more question. How busy is it on weekends? I see there's some sort of public competition nearly every weekend. I'll only be there on weekends and part of the appeal is obviously a less crowded range.

The clays are only open for the tournaments. Most of the other competitions only last a few hours and are only once a month. I've never had.an issue with crowds but I don't use most of what's there . After you've visited, if can't get a sponsor, let me know and I'll help

The clays are only set up once a month for the tourny. Some throwers are permanent but many are put away during the month. Su least that was the way it was a few years ago when I last shot the course. Your bset bet is to go to a tourny and ask a lot of questions.

I'm just looking for a place that will let me shoot Russian ammo in my AKs without having to drive all the way out to Tac-Pro. Suggestions? I'm in NRH on the border of Keller.

Is there not a waiting list?

This is a private place. It's owned by the members. Membership is limited so someone has to drop out before another is added. If you shoot a lot it is probably the most economical. I have shot there many times as a guest.....good facility.

2016 doesn't appear to be up yet. Have an idea what events are coming up soon, or will they follow the normal rotation? Looks like 5 stand is the usual 1st Saturday competition. Frankly, embarrassing myself in a competition doesn't sound too fun, but if that's the processes then that's what I'll do. I'd be lucky to hit 5 birds.

and am I reading the rules right, you can only take a particular guest once a year?

The 2016 competitions will follow the same dates. For the open tournys like the clays, non members can shoot each one. As to bringing the same local guests out to shoot skeet, trap etc more than once a year, the rule is only once a year. . If the locals want to use the facilities, they can join the club and pay dues same as the members do.

And don't be embarrassed by any learning curve. Most are out there for fun. Look at the scores on the clays, they're all over the place.

Just a clarification on the clays at Arlington Spirtman's Club - they are now open all the time and set up in a prepaid card system.

Cool. You a member too? I hope to get out there this weekend or next. I emailed the membership guy and he answered some questions, but he didn't know what was happening this weekend. I guess I need to email whoever does the shotgun stuff. Those are the only matches I could do I think. looks like most of it is 3 gun or .22, which I don't have.

Nice! I haven't shot the clays in more than a few years but a couple of my friends shoot each tourney and keep bugging me to get back in the routine. It's on my 2016 to do list

Been a member for two or three years no wand really have liked it. They have steadily been doing improvements accross the broad, speaking of which I just received the monthly newsletter and it looks as though they are redoing the road in front of all the ranges this week so keep that in mind if you go. Think all the work should not impead the weekend but you never know. For sure though it won't impact clays, skeet, five stand or archery.
