have a great single shot old-school smooth barrel twelve gauge (my first weapon from childhood) that delivers a tight buckshot pattern out to fifty yards. i've never fired a rifled slug through it, and i read various opinions on the safety of doing so - slug manufacturers claim their ammo can fit any choke, but you can find a thousand opinions online about firing slugs through a full choke, so I'm coming to the OB as a definitive source. anybody have experience with this? foster slugs (Hornady whitetail round) would be the load under consideration.
have never hunted whitetail with a shotgun but am doing so next week with a colleague from out of town who won't be bringing a FIREARM, so am considering using the single-shot if its safe, and loaning my 870 to him. would rather keep my ugly face intact. opinions? alternative is to use buckshot but I'd rather not.
