Older lady neighbor just sent me this asking what kind of snake it is. I told her "King Cobra" and asked if she's in Thailand.

Is there a snake that can flatten its neck out like this indigenous to the Spring Branch area of Houston? She could be screwing with me but I'd expect a better picture if fake.

Looks like the one at the Rice Lofts Downtown decided to move out into the 'burbs. Guess he's finally ready to settle down and start a family. T&P for your friend's neighborhood.

They are my favorite snakes. Had one for about 8 years. Switched it over to eating mice. That took a while.

Thanks guys!

That looks like the snake that got tangled in the netting I put on my planter box a couple months ago. I tried to get it out but it was tangled up and I thought it could be a copperhead so it was dispatched.

That sucks. There are people you can call to come pick up a snake, venomous or not, including me, depending on where you're located.

That kind of netting and erosion control blankets are hell on snakes and other reptiles.

That's not a hog nose! That's a "spreadin' adder"! At least that's what I was taught to call them.

Cool Hognose. Yea, there's quite a few people that will relocate snakes in the area so you don't have to kill them. Not me particular but I can contact them for you.

Harmless hog nose snakes either:
1) Coil up, strike, and act badazz..and likely gets them kilt
2) Do the cobra thing and scare people ...resulting in their death
3) Roll over and play dead...likely saves some of them

We called them spread adders growing up in Beaumont. We had about an acre garden that we turned each spring with a team of mules and a plow and spread adders would be popping up like earth worms. I never saw one roll over and play dead until I was older. The ones we had would always puff up and try to scare you off.
