I am on my way to Idaho. Hopefully will get an Elk. I will be driving back to San Antonio but have to stop for 4 days in Colorado. I have a 150 qt. Cooler. What is the best way to pack it and how long can I keep it in the cooler?

If you stop in Colorado near Fort Collins, you can use my freezer.

This. How processed will the meat be? I'm presuming just quartered? With the 4 day stopover I think you'll want to get the meat frozen for the journey. I've had to freeze deer when my processor was backed up and couldn't take any more inventory. Dry ice under a layer of cardboard then load the cooler with your Elk and leave the lid closed until you reach Texas. Try to keep it shaded for the trip as well.

Doesn't have to be a Yeti or high end cooler, any good cooler kept closed and shaded should let get well below freezing.

10-12 days on ice no problem drain daily keep plenty of ice.I do it with whitetail every year.
150 QT ? You are not bringing much of your elk home?
Dry ice will freeze your meat like a rock not necessary.

I just got back from Colorado yesterday with one. Try to get the meat chilled before you leave. I hung mine in a walk-in cooler for three days before leaving. I used dry ice after that but have used regular ice on all of my previous elk. The problem is bringing those heavy coolers into your hotel room if you plan to stop. I am too paranoid to leave them in the back of my truck. A small dolly would be a good thing to have along. Good luck.

Debone if you can, but don't forget to leave proof of sex and carcass tag attached for the duration of the trip. For cows, I get as much of the udder as I can into a plastic bag to try to keep any milk from getting to the meat.

Probably with a saddle, might be sore riding bareback.

Most processors would disagree. The two I use said use ice and keep draining water, then replace the ice.
