I am on my way to Idaho. Hopefully will get an Elk. I will be driving back to San Antonio but have to stop for 4 days in Colorado. I have a 150 qt. Cooler. What is the best way to pack it and how long can I keep it in the cooler?
quote:This. How processed will the meat be? I'm presuming just quartered? With the 4 day stopover I think you'll want to get the meat frozen for the journey. I've had to freeze deer when my processor was backed up and couldn't take any more inventory. Dry ice under a layer of cardboard then load the cooler with your Elk and leave the lid closed until you reach Texas. Try to keep it shaded for the trip as well.
Dry Ice.
quote:Most processors would disagree. The two I use said use ice and keep draining water, then replace the ice.
