How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm sure this has been asked before, but I'm having a hard time finding it right now...

So, what recommendations do you guys have for a quick access handgun safe? I'm looking for something that can be mounted to a bed frame, wall stud, etc. What are your thoughts on manual vs electronic (and then buttons vs biometric)?

It looks like there are quite a few out there, so I'm looking to narrow down my search options. There's not a real budget on it, but I guess I'd like to stay around $200 or so.

Thanks!

I have an HDX-250 in stock that is biometric. From Liberty... good biometric safe and will toss in the mounting plate for it. By partner has several of the smaller ones stashed throughout his house and he loves them. $289

Also have the Gunvault MiniVaults... those are really cool and use a quick fingertip combo feature.

And the Speed Vaults...

We have 2 of the standard Speedvaults, 1 mounted to each side of our bed, and really like them.

Thanks. The Speed Vaults are what I was picturing in my mind I guess. Is there enough room for a spare mag in those? It looks pretty tight w/ just the gun.

It doesn't have a cut out for it, but I think there is room to make it work.

This is what I have: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008HMWUB0?keywords=biometric%20handgun%20safe&qid=1444237624&ref_=sr_1_4&sr=8-4

I don't have much of a review on it because I very rarely close and lock it. That will be changing as the new kid comes to be. So far it opens as advertised.

Question about the Standard Speed Vault, does it have to be mounted through the side or can it be mounted through the back? I am looking for something to go between the bed and night stand but I cant mount it on to the side of either of those. I feel that would work well in the narrow space

TIA

  • I have the Stack-On Biometric safe. I believe they fixed their previous issues. I haven't had any issues. I mounted mine with some magnets on top of my big safe. My big safe is located within 3 feet of my bed. I figure that I can stand to sacrifice two guns if "they" want to steal them during a burglary. All my other guns, that aren't well hidden, are in the big safe. However, I have access to 2 pistols in quick time when I need them. Make a plan to your needs.

I use and recommend both the V-Line Topdraw (they have other models as well) and the Fort Knox Handgun safe. Both use mechanical simplex locks and don't rely on batteries or electronics to operate. The Fort Knox is very heavy duty and nicer than the V-Line, but both work for my purposes.

This is the lock style i prefer but i need something slim to fit my area. Has anyone seen a top open guick access safe with that style lock mechanism?

My only security concern is little peopls hands as I have a 2yr old and newborn (onviosly planning for the future), if someone breaks in this safe will most likely be empty if I am not home.

I saw the V-Line Desk Mate, anyone had any experience with it? would it hold a fullsize semi auto? Does anyone have the same design but a little less price wise
