My dad, 2 uncles and I have been drawn for the gun deer either sex whitetail hunt on the James Daughtrey WMA in January. We have been applying for 10 years and this will be our first time to have been drawn. I was wondering if anyone out there has ever hunted deer before on the James Daughtrey WMA? If so, what can we expect good or bad? Any info or photos would be great. Thanks and good luck to everyone else out in the woods.

No but I worked with someone who bowhunted there one year.

He came back to work covered in mosquito bites and carrying a picture of the only kill the entire group made that trip..... a huge rattlesnake with an arrow through it's head.

So, bring insect repellant and some sort of snake boots or chaps for sure.

You know that is a great area. That was just a bowhunt. Those things can easily happen to a small group of bowhunters who have no time to scout and only two days to hunt.

It is quite different with rifle, as you can probably tell if you have looked at the success percentages on the website.

Big whitetail there....nuff said! That will be towards the end of the primary rut/beginning of post rut. Big boys will come to corn more readily.

I took a doe there on a doe/spike hunt several years ago. Also used to duck hunt and white bass fish out of there too. Lots of game and as stated, big bucks.

Hunted there last year in the archery hunt, really a nice place.
Saw some nice bucks, didn't connect with any.
Was a pretty tough 2 day archery hunt when baiting is not allowed.
We did rattle and saw a really nice mature buck that crossed the sendero around 100 yards away.
He was in the 150s range.

Seems like we were in comp. 5...

Watch for gators, and there are some reallybnice bucks down there.
