How long do you want to ignore this user?
I've never bow hunted before and I'm trying to get into it. What is a good introductory bow that I can learn how to use and can still go hunting with it and take down a deer or hog or what ever I run into? Also what other equipment would a beginner need to get started.
Thanks and Gig'em

IMHO its a bit late for this season to get started ***unless you have significant free time to practice.

There are a huge number of good ready to shoot options with entry level components/accessories from many manufacturers if you wanted to buy new. You can get into one of these around 500-600 not including arrows/release/target/broadheads

I went the route of shooting everything I could get my hands on at bow shops and then narrowing it down to what I wanted. Then I found an older/used model from that same manufacturer that the previous owner had decent components installed. I test shot a Mathews Z7x, Bowtech Assassin, Mission something, PSE Bowmadness, Hoyt Charger/Maxxis and finally an Elite Hunter. The Elite just felt right and I almost bought it right there for MSRP. I researched some more and was able to trade into a used Elite GT500 and I haven't felt the need to buy a new bow since then.

There's a couple links in the FAQ thread too.

I shoot Hoyt but don't buy new equipment. Too easy to find used. Well, except my GrizzlyStix.

Buying used is a good way to go but I would avoid Pawn shops etc. Find someone that you know/trust
that may be selling theirs. Or find a bow shop that also sells on consignment. Less chance of you getting someone's problem child that way.

This seems like an awesome deal for an entry package bow:

Bear Authority at Camofire
Commander Gorn

I have a bow I posted in the classifieds a while back that never sold. It's a Mathews Rival Pro, kind of a longer bow at 41" ATA and is currently set up for a release. I retired it to go with a shorter ATA bow as I have moved to a release. I'll sell it as a package and include a half dozen or so arrows if you are interested, package includes:

Green Plano Protector bow case
Trophy Ridge Revolution drop away rest
Cobra 3 pin sight
Bohning 4 arrow detachable quiver
A new Zebra string I received when I originally purchased it (could use a new string, I never changed it)
Bow has minor wear marks from pack, I can send pics if intersted
$275, located in Belton

Like others have said, it's helpful if you can go to a few different shops to try out different styles to see what fits you best or that you are comfortable with. Even though you are just beginning, once you shoot a few different brands and styles you will begin to feel differences and form an opinion as to what may work best for you. Once you find one that suits you - Practice, Practice, Practice. Good Luck!
