I own a 1952 Ford 8N. Would it survive an EMP? Would I need to replace the points?

The points or the coil/condenser? The points are pretty mechanical; does the emp change the metallurgy of the points? Honest question.

Will the tinfoil in my hat be affected??

I'm pretty sure you would be fine, I would think the only thing you would need to do is keep the battery detached from the leads. I've often read online (because the internet is always truthful) that any pre 80s vehicle will survive an EMP.

I would think also that it all depends on how far from the detonation you are.

Funny question. The serious answer is that an EMP will pick up and amplify on most anything metal. Long stretches of metal; highlines, fences, guard rails, etc. will pick it up more.

An EMP can cause a surge through electronics and burn them out. But then, electronic chips have microscopic wires, and a spark like a carpet spark can fry them.

Your points, plugs, condenser, etc. use sparks hundreds of times more powerful than that all the time. I don't see any points system being effected by an EMP, unless it's from a nuclear blast so close that EMP is the least of your worries.

And I see no logical reason for disconnecting a battery in defense of an EMP.

I also think the Jade Helm hysteria is stupid, embarrassing to Texas, and an insult to our family, friends and fellow Aggies who are currently serving.

Yes it would survive.

According to TexAgs though any Ferd without an Ecoboooooost is inferior and not worth driving. Would you want everyone to laugh at you? Might as well start going by Carrie because it might be the end of the world but they're all gonna laugh at you.

Weird story warning.

EMP simulator at Sandia National Lab in the early 80s. DOD hires a 3rd party contractor to obtain vehicles for comparison of the effects of 120,000 kilovolts on them. The stated goal is to harden existing vehicles for use by missile crews and getting the President to his plane in case of attack.

I'm a young lawyer with a client that is involved in a lawsuit involving one of the "new" vehicles that were tested, i.e. "nuked."

A few declassifications of information and 30 years later, I can say the 1966 Dodge truck fared the best. All those with computers (such as they were back then) did not.

And FTR, that case was one hell of a ride and worked out okay for my client.

Please, there is no way that communist Chinese and neo communist Russians don't already have a list of the owners of these tractors and they surely have geosynchronous satellites monitoring their every move and feeding targeting information to their missile submarines hiding in the deep channels of Corpus Christi, Matagorda, and Galveston Bays. EMP survivable? Please, you're bouncing around on a rumbling ground zero! Or did you really think that after a nuclear war they would let us rebuild our forefather's vision of an agrarian economy on your old granpappy's tractor?
