if the water ain't too bad from runoff I'd go Texas rigged plastic crawfish in green/brown. Jig it some.

The only place I can think of to buy bait in Bandera is the Ice House. I would imagine fishing is going to be pretty rough. The river was just a trickle until recently. I did catch a 6" bass on my fly rod this spring. So hopefully they'll be back someday.

I wouldn't plan on finding fishing tackle in Bandera. Not sure where you are coming from, but you'd be better off stopping somewhere along the way, perhaps Gibson's in Kerrville. I have success with teeny crankbaits, mirro-lures, road runners, and baby brush hogs.

The Medina is really clear water, but is going to be stained after this week's rainfall, so maybe throw some brighter colored lures instead of the natural colors that usually work best. Good luck. Its about as pretty as I've ever seen it here in June.

Thanks. Going to try some artificial minnows this evening then look at the hardware store in town for some other stuff if these aren't any good.

Check at the gas stations too, they will often have a small selection of what works in the area.

The river has actually been pretty clear recently, including today.

Don't know where OP is fishing but the past couple of weeks, there have been folks at the dam just below town. It's always been decent and with recent flooding, maybe better?

The ice house doesn't have much at all -- nowhere near the inventory of several years ago. There is a hardware store at the North end of main that is pretty good.

Grew up on the medina river and have fished it my whole life. As for lures a small spinner like a rooster tail or panther Martin work great for areas with rapids. As for other lures small rebel crick hopper in yellow or brown, also don't be afraid to throw a wooly booger or prince nymph under a bobber if you find a fly shop collection anywhere. Soft plastics in natural colors green pumpkin, watermelon red will catch bass and occasional large perch early & late.

The absolute best bait, you will have to work for a bit, flip over a few medium to large rocks near shoreline
and catch some small crayfish or hellgrammites (my personal favorite) hiding underneath them. Theres not much bait or lure shops to select from there locally. Never catch much there at the city park in bandera, might try river crossings at camp bandina rd or peaceful valley rd. Those two areas receive much less fishing pressure but shoreline is a little "furrier".

Try the True Value Hardware store off 16- Across the street from Lowes supermarket (old Super S). Liquor store right next door. Good luck.

Thanks. I guess this is the only board anyone's ever gotten the reference on.
