New meme, instead of "never bring a knife to a gun fight", hoaw about "Never bring a gun to an art show".

The two dead asshats were taken down by a single patrol officer armed with a handgun and a set of brass balls.

If Average Joe patrolman with a handgun can take out the garbage, a ccw can as well!

An OLD cop at that, apparently a 30 year veteran.

They didn't even get anywhere near the event. That and they were both wearing body armor. That's damn good shooting.

It goes back to training once again. People never rise to the occasion in a high stress event, they fall back to their highest level of consistent training. Muscle memory matters and you only build that one way.

One of the best shooting instructors is Texas is Garland cop. Wonder if it was TJ?

I've always been interested in more handgun training. Anyone know any good ones in the Gulf Coast and SW Houston area?

If you can't find trainers, look to your local IDPA clubs, many of those guys can really shoot and they set up some insane scenarios to add stress and make the training/meets as real as they can.

What are you needing? Traditional target shooting? CQC? I'm in process of getting things set up to do some training and weekend "camps."

I've been shooting USPDA with a school resource officer, old guy probably 60. Over two and a half years, I've seen him get one penalty! He's not real fast, but he's accurate... A zone or head shots every time.

Reports are these Islamofacists were wearing body armor. Center mass would have slowed them. Looks like they took some shots to the head or limbs that caused bleed out. However, evidently not being far from the vehicle would suggest they went down fast.

Don't know the range the officer that took them out was shooting from, but nice shooting!

I go to my local range and target shoot, thats not a problem. Thinking things like, how to check a room/doorway, draw on someone close quarters, and fight/flight scenarios. I know my gun, and I keep up with the laws, but some hands on instructions would be helpful. The wife would enjoy it too if there was a course that wasn't too prepper/mall ninja heavy. Kinda like a CHL 2.0.

You can't miss your target fast enough.

Seconded. If you can find time and money to take a course or two, do so.

But IDPA/USPSA are great ways to keep skills fresh.

Movement, reloading, shoot/no shoot targets, etc all while under stress/pressure of competition is a great way to start taking your pistol shooting to the next level if all you've ever done is plink at paper from behind a table.

I persoanlly recommend tactical response fighting pistol. I just got through taking this course for the second time two weekends ago in smithville at uptex. I have trained with several other outfits and fighting pistol is the best hands down. I took a low light / force on force class with CWS out of Austin. The low light and siminitions portion was awesome but I would not recommend doing a pure firearms course with them for various reasons.
I cant vouch for them but the only other outfit im willing to try in Houston is MAST Solutions.
if you have enough people interested, you could call up someone like Paul White and he could do a private class to your liking. They usually want about 4-5 people to book a private class.
Nonetheless go get some training from a reputable company cause we need more good guys out there who are competant with their firearms.

The latest story I read said both men were shot by SWAT after the initial officer "subdued" them.

Makes sense. SWAT couldn't have been too far away since they were on standby.

One report last night said the older cop killed one, and knocked the second one down. The SWAT team was literally right around the corner. They lit the second guy up while he was going for a backpack with grenades in it....that was Shaun Rabb, on Dallas Fox last night, and the only mention I think I have seen about grenades so take with a grain of salf.
