So I'm designing a metal cover for my back porch. I have everything just about figured out except the open space in between my shingles and the R panels on the cover. What I want to know is if you can buy a specific kind of flashing or cover for the space/connection. Here are a few pictures of the layout.

1. Install gutters on your house
2. Drop the panels to just below your gutters

That's how I originally designed it, but I don't want the metal tubing and panels to drop below the height of the roof's eve.

In that case you'll have to tear into your roof to ensure there won't be any drip or build up of water where the two dissimilar materials meet. You could also attach the edge of the awning to the edge of the gutter and put a flashing over the joint so water would either flow into the gutter or onto the awning.

Forgive the rough sketch & terrible handwriting.

They make transition flashing to slide under your shingles that is made to fit over the r panel.

Agreed, but you will have a lot of water coming off the edge of that awning when it rains, you will have the water flow from your house roof as well as the awning roof. heavy rain could ruin your yard around the awning perimeter.

attach (bolt) 4" channel to your facia Then put r-panel insulation on top of channel then set r-panel on top of insulation then use self tapping screws. Screw into flat part of r-panel. If you attach the channel to your facia then you can lose the post next to your house. Make SURE the channel is below your shingles / drip edge-rain will run down the r-panel cover. Get guttering with enough downspouts. Plan on enclosing the underside of patio cover. When you have a little rain it will sound like tacks. When it rains quite a bit it will sound machine guns. Very annoying. I would recommend insulating & then enclose it up. It will make a HUGE difference . Good luck!

I live near Wichita Falls, and if we had a rain capable enough of ruining my yard I won't be so upset about it.

Thanks though, the transition flashing is my best option

we did this same thing on our house in college station we sold the best way to do this properly is to tie it into your current roof.

No problem! Glad someone else was able to provide an easier solution.
