How long do you want to ignore this user?
Day 115. Made my first trip since quitting out to our ranch this past weekend. Survived without any hiccups. So far so good.

1 year and 4.5 months. I still think about it every day. The real urges are gone, but man I could take a huge copenhagen dip right now and be in heaven.

Went on a bachelor party trip to a ranch last year and took 2 dips while we were there for the weekend. Wouldn't do it until I knew for certain that it was ending the moment we stepped off the property.

Just over 7 months now. Best thing I ever did, don't think about it much anymore. Can and a half to two cans a day for over 30 years, saving a ton of money. Wish I had quit long ago but I guess I just wasn't ready yet.

Been clean from all nicotine 1 month now. Still getting cravings to do something with my mouth rather than nothing- chewing gum like crazy. When I don't chew gum, I eat everything in the house... which doesn't help when also trying to lose weight.

How is everyone else doing?

Now been clean 3 mos and 2 days. Stilk get cravings, but not like i used to.

Just passed my 18th year of being a quitter...on Easter. Hardest thing I ever did. Period. I *still* can feel an urge in certain situations...being around my Corps buddies, hearing that thwack, smelling the smell...

As others have said...you cannot give in and have "just one". But take heart, it does get easier...just stay the course, remember all the reasons you are doing this and pray! Pray for strength!

You got this!

It's all about how bad you want to not do it.

Like I said before, just a little pinch of dried cow turd (deer turd work extremely well too), ground up super fine and mixed into the can. They may notice a change in color they can't explain, but the draw is so strong it overtakes "what the hell" logic. They may even complain it doesn't taste right. After the forth or fifth plug, let them in on your little secret. Now at this point, be prepared, there is a pretty high likelyhood that they will attempt to beat your a--....and semi rightly so. After the shenanigans calm down, just point out that the addiction is so strong they'd rather put cow sh-- in their mouth than throw away obviously bad stuff.

Not saying this is a good plan, but was highly effective with teenagers on scout summer camp staff circa late 90's. Probably land you in jail these days.

I think it is important to understand that the chemical dependence is defeated after the 3 day mark. After that, it helps me to know that it is all in my head, and with that I beat it. I quit all forms of nicotine about 10 months ago.

Before that, I had quit for about 4 years straight, and picked up smoking again after getting drunk and making bad decisions. after another few years, now I am nicotine free again.
I quit smoking more than 20 years ago. I still dream that I'm smoking and then when I wake up I start looking around for a cigarette until I realize it was only a dream.

For those that want to quit, or at least cut back on the way....

Associate dipping/chewing with a daily activity. When do you do it? What can you do to lessen that activity?

I was fortunate. A can a day dipper. I found myself in a job that I had to be in front of a customer many times a day. That lessened my opportunity to dip during the day. Still would do it when I could. Every friggin' chance, a cup at my side.

I could not between customer calls, because I was in fear of "the breath", so I cut back between calls on customers. So, to make it easier, I only dipped after customer calls, and loaded my day with those. Then I got a chew/dip at the end of the day as my "first". This became a time of day deal.

Then, one day, I went to the golf course and was on the second hole and always had my Cope when I golfed. WTF did I not have my Cope with me? WTF? Then I realized that I had completely forgot to bring it with me on the golf course because it was too early in the day.

Too early in the day. I was a morning to night dipper before, and FORGOT IT. Because I had associated it with an evening thing.

My dentist chews Cope. We all know it is not good, overall. However, if you feel you cannot quit, associate it with an activity, and only chew then

I usually have a chew on the way home after work, and maybe one or two after I get home. That is it for a normal day. Association of activity is key.

I do have more, if I am hunting, fishing, etc. But that is activity oriented. I like the flavor more than the nicotine,so that probably makes it easier for me.

If you want to want to quit, do so, which I'd support whole heartedly. If you like it because "you like it" moderation is the key, and associate it with the time of day, or a reward at the end of the day of some kind.

Like alcohol, in some regards of moderation, snuff is OK. Just gotta know limits.

That being said, if you want to QUIT. Do it. Lots of support here!

I dipped for 5 years or so in HS and college. Tried to quit about a year after I graduated. I was doing pretty good then one night after work (at KBTX) I was really struggling. Found a plug of chewing tobacco in the newsroom so I ripped a wad off and headed out to my car. Got so much juice that I swallowed some which caused me to puke in my car. That cured me believe it not. Havent even thought about dipping for 30 years.

" If I was told I had a terminal illness the first thing i would do is go get me some Copenhagen. Every time some one opens a can the smell makes me want to start again."

That was a quote from this thread over a year ago. I've had the identical thoughts. I'm over two years quit now after a 35 year habit. I dipped from the moment I awoke until I went to bed. The #1 priority in my life was by far my nicotine. Somehow thru the power of prayer I found the strength to quit. Unbelievable really.

But I promise, I think about it every single day. I miss it every single day. It's really sad to be honest. I've conquered the nicotine habit today but I'm not sure about tomorrow. Still taking my quit one day at a time. Which is really sad at this point. Damn, does it ever end? Fortunately I've moved overseas and can't buy it here!

I quit years ago and then out of the blue put a big punch in (friend offered it up). My brother gave me a big punch on the upper back accompanied with an insult, upon seeing me put the dip in.

I swallowed Coppenhagen straight up.

I vommitted things I did not eat. I felt horrible for hours. It was a bad day from then on....

Every time I thought about taking another dip, I just remembered that feeling. I would purposely dwell on it.

Never dipped since.
God's Peace,
Chuck
