My dad told me a story of a lake near Truth or Consequenses New Mexico, where a young boy fell into the lake behind the dam and disappeared. They sent divers down to try to locate the body, and while feeling around in the murky water they felt eye balls from catfish that were eight inches in diameter. The divers got scared and resurfaced, refusing to go back down due to the size of the catfish at the bottom. Told the family that their son most likely drowned and the catfish ate him.

If you look closely you can see steps carved into the fish's side with a tomahawk so they could slide down the cat's back. You might also want to check for Pomeranians.

After big storms in New Braunsfels my diving buddies and I would go get deck chairs, BBQ grills and whatnot from under docks. It was pretty good cash money. You wanted to use your nastiest wetsuit and booties so you did not trash your gear. No fins so you could walk and climb ladders. My first job out there being the know it all I decided I needed my fins. They were really expensive. I went down and tried to stay off the bottom so there would be some kind of visibility. Air bagged up some stuff and went to a hole under the dock and Bam! The biggest damn catfish I have seen in the water bull rushed me and took one of my fins all the way past my ankle bone ripping the wetsuit to boot. Scary as hell, had to be at least 4ft long and pissed. I called it a day and was made fun of not to mention a liar. A few hours later as some of the guys were finished at other houses they went down to get another piece of furniture and I asked if they would look for my fin. They found it and it had chew marks scraped down them. I have heard other stories of big catfish in Canyon Lake and I never doubt any of them.

I'd always heard the same thing about Lake Belton. I know for a fact that the Leon River has produced some catfish of unbelievable size way back in the day.

Lived on Lake O the Pines when I was a kid. Heard way too many stories of car sized catfish by the damn. I didn't believe any of them. We did pull a 52 lber out of there off of a trotline, however.

Biggest one I have seen:

the one i always heard about lake livingston was a diver fixing the dam put his stuff on a rock that subsequently swam away. I grew up on the north side of the lake and we had ops big enough that you had to let them work the fat off, but nothing quite like that. big ass (+10 ft) gators on our end of the lake in the creeks though.
