Are there any that have convenient jewelry storage included? I've been planning on adding one to our closet when I redo it this year and that could help in the negotiation. It doesn't have to be otherwise huge - we don't have much of a collection and I'm not as avid about adding to it as most here are. I'd like it to be something that I could make a false door to cover so it's not obvious there's a safe in the closet.

Mine has a large top shelf that allows for doc and other storage. Electric lock makes it pretty easy to use.

I've got a top shelf as well. AmSec makes a jewelry tray accessory but I am tempted to just try to make one myself.

Mine (Cabela's labeled - which I think is a Cannon brand) came with a single shelf that spans the entire width of the safe, but that was it. I ended up just making another one because I had a lot of unused room available. Simple to do - used some MDO and found some cloth that was very close to the stuff installed at the factory.

I really hate this thread, because I really need another safe. But I don't want to spend the money.

I am also getting ready to buy my first gun safe and I need a bit of input on a different aspect. I have the safe picked out, seems plenty big for growth, etc. My concern is the placement of the safe because the only spot that I can really put it is in my garage. I know I can control the humidity, but I'm really concerned about security. Do any of you have safes in the garage? Can you ease my concerns on security?

Are there any major issues I should consider besides humidity and security before putting a safe in the garage? I am planning on bolting it to the foundation and hiding it as well as I can.

Thanks.

Mr. Papageogrio,
Bolt it down and add your alarm to your garage door and your Vegas winnings will be fine. My buddy uses a fridge box as concealment when he is not using the safe so prying eyes cant really see it if the door is open.

In addition to what Deats said - keep it hidden behind other things, at least to the point that if you have your garage open it's not readily visible to people walking, biking or driving by. Removing temptation is the best start you can get to security.

I have a Winchester 24-gun model I picked up at Tractor Supply because of the price and the fact that it fit exactly into the space I had for it in my master closet ... I would have liked to have gone bigger, but I just didn't have a spot for it inside the house (my garage is detached, and not easy to get to in case I needed to get into the safe quickly). It does what a safe is supposed to do, and was a good bargain ...

I just bought my first safe last weekend...from Carters Country in Spring...had best price compared to any store and website!! usually they are a little more expensive on guns and stuff but they were best on the safe.
I shopped there and several other stores around Houston. Several brands too.

I settled on the Browning Sporter 23 gun. the shelves are fully adjustable height wise thru the whole safe. Not just halfway. Plus the door automatically came with a rack to hold guns as well. It's perfect for shotguns and has pockets that are great for magazines, etc. THat way can put scoped rifles in racks inside. Also automatically came with a below shelf pistol rack. Stuff goes on the top of the shelf like normal but then hang pistols underneath (similar thing can be bought after market for a~ $20.

It came standard with the manual dial. I wanted that instead of digital as I've read mixed reviews on the digitals

Also it was the right size for where I wanted to put it tucked away behind stuff in the back of the closet.

So far pleased with it and most importantly the space it provides as I add guns to it. Lots of room for documents, jewelry, and then the ammo and guns.

Tractor Supply Cannon $999 48 gun, 30 minutes
I ended up buying two of these safes. On occasion, they will have a sale for only $800!
Everyone is right. Buy the biggest safe you can afford, or buy the biggest one that you have room for in your home. You will end up storing more than just guns and ammo. External hard drives, passports, documents, cameras, binoculars, scopes, range finders, jewelry, coins, etc. These safes actually have a 110 outlet and a cat 5 terminal connection. you could actually leave a CPU inside running.
The only thing I didn't like about these safes were the rough metal edges on the inside bottom of the safe. I ended up putting some electrical tape on the edge. This edge would scratch a stock if I wasn't careful removing a gun.

Dang, I didn't think about keeping my camera lenses in my safe until that last picture.

I have this one, chosen because it fit perfectly where I needed it to go. I want to add more shelves and a door organizer.

Right now, I keep jewelry, documents, a couple of handguns, 4 long guns, and all of my ammo in it. It is bursting at the seams. Some times I have to move stuff around to get the door to shut. I'm going to get some separate locking boxes for ammo and get it out of the safe for more room and for fire reasons.
