Any recommendations and quality operations I can buy from?

I'm looking to stir up the genetics on my ranch and interested in buying 3-4 pregnant doe and possibly a yearling buck. 800 acres high fenced in Cross Timbers section of Texas, Hamilton County.

TIA

I'm a veterinarian and do a lot of deer breeding all over the state. There's a huge difference in breeding operations. Some are very poorly run and managed, others are top notch. If I had to recommend one ranch, I'd suggest Seven Oaks Whitetails. They are managed extremely well, and always produce healthy deer. If they can't help you out, Frank Ondrovik, the manager, can certainly point you in the right direction. He loves talking deer. You can tell him that Will from VERGE sent you.

Antler Ranch in Walnut Springs, TX

Linky

Owned by a family friend, very professional operation. They were the owners of Highlander, who used to be the largest typical whitetail buck in captivity.

quote:
Highlander is one of the most massive whitetails ever born and raised in Texas. Bred by Donovan Williamson II at the famed Antler Ranch, Highlander is 100% South Texas Genetics. He scored a huge 245" @ 4 with an inside spread of 29-5/8". He is a 7x5 typical with 17 points.

I applaud your intelligence in getting bred Does! Getting "Breeder Bucks" is not very smart. You're getting a 3for with the Does!

These organizations and their members lists should be more than enough info to get you going (along with the other suggestions in the thread of course):

Texas Deer Association: http://www.texasdeerassociation.com/

Deer Breeders Corp: http://www.dbcdeer.com/

North American Deer Farmers: http://www.nadefa.org/

Texas Deer Association and Deer Breeders Corp are both having several events coming up in the next couple of months. They would be good places to meet different breeders from around the state.

My Father-In-Law has been managing deer herds for over 50 years. He is a deer breeder and he consults and manages some of the top deer breeding ranches and facilities in the state. If you are interested in talking to him shoot me an email at txaggie00 at live . com

Check out this ranch. Paul is a super nice guy with an excellent deer herd 300+ genetics, he breeds for the classic whitetail typical look. I have guided on this ranch numerous times and the deer are awesome. He is an Aggie also.
