Does anybody have a link that shows low level prevailing winds? I'm starting to think out my plans for next year's hunting season. I am planning on going off the beaten path at my lease.

I second SE most of the time. In the winter, a frontal passage may bring wind out of the N or NW, but that usually won't last long and it will swing back out of the S or SE, mostly SE. I hunted in the San Angelo area for years, and it was pretty much the same there. I am not a professional in that area, but a long time hunter who always worried about such things.

Here are "wind rose" maps by month. They indicate which directions are climatologically favorable given the chosen month. Here is an image of Austin in December:

Click on "Wind Rose Plots (ftp site)" at the top and navigate to your nearest airport. It is done by major airports due to their length (in years) of data to provide a good climatological data set.

The different colors represent speeds. The rings are percent of occurrence. From the example above, a north wind of greater than 11.05 m/s (sky blue shade, 24.7 mph for us Americans) occurs less than 1% of the 30 year period of record in December. The most favorable directions for Austin in December are North, South then North Northeast.

There is more information on how to read these plots on the website linked above. This may be what you are looking for.

I use WindFinder for wind info

If you find a weater station close to your desired location you can click on the Wind Statistics tab and it'll show prevailing direction, speed, wind probability, and air temp for each month.
