Due to his lack of contact I believe it is time to get your money and parts back, I second the notion of then swinging by Horizon they do great work.

I recommended him based on this forum to a friend of mine, because the local guys were booked out. since then, my friend has cancelled the order due to the same response you seem to be getting from SSC.

This whole thread makes me sad. If you get this busy then raise your prices and accept less jobs. I guess it's the danger of a small business. You're so afraid to turn away business that you over extend yourself and kill your business anyway through developing/earning a poor customer service reputation.

Was your friend refunded? I assume he actually got a hold of SSC to cancel his order.

I'd have to pay for the correct emoticon for this post. :|

You (NW80) must throw around your money better than me. SSC just called me; but how much longer do I play this game? Maybe updating a public forum will get results.

No arrow, I don't have that much money. That's a common misconception on this board because I wait until I can afford high end equipment. I've been trying to give a young guy starting out a break. Either he's been lying to me all along or he really has had a rough time. Either way, he needs to stay in contact with his clientele.
He built me a 6.5X284 that I paid for. We couldn't get it where I wanted it from a velocity standpoint so he took it back and was going to re-chamber/barrel it into a 6.5 SAUM. At that time I asked him to take my 7mm RUM back with him to work up a load ( I didn't have the time or facilities at the time). The last time I talked with him (December) is when he said that ATF had been messing with him but all was well and I'd have my rifles soon.

I agree. And people complain about these guys when they raise their prices, but higher prices are better than the alternative.

Once again, I just got off of the phone with SSC. He told me that my rifle should be ready by next week.

He also told me that he "bit off more than he could chew" and his planned helper bailed on him. I told that either way he needed to keep his clientele abreast of what was happening.

We'll see.....

Hope it works out for yall in the end, & that you either get your money and parts back or a quality finished product.

Hopefully he is just behind like he says and not pulling the wool over your eyes.

Same here. He said he could ship next week. I'll be pleased to help his business out, but yes, we'll see...

I'm a small business operator, and over loading yourself is something that happens, it's a lesson that has to be learned, but you must communicate with your customers at all times...even when you have to tell them something they don't want to hear. I'm afraid that SSC is learning that bad news gets around the world before good news gets out of the driveway. I hope that he does what he is supposed to do, learns a lesson, and is able to repair the damage this has done to his reputation.

One thing I've found:

If you "F" up, be upfront and honest with your customers and they are usually REALLY cool with it. Ignore them or.. God forbid... Lie to them... Bad mojo.

I'm human... I have done a lot of orders for the OB and just business in general... I make mistakes but I think I've been pretty good at trying to own up to problems and get them fixed. And it's one thing for a scope to be backordered, you guys have no idea what it's like when someone can't see and their glasses were effed up and take an extra two weeks to get in. Nightmare....

In the supply industry, I use the old saying "deliver good news fast and bad news FASTER". Generally people are understanding and will be able to work around reasonable problems if they know about it.

I have had a few things built from SSC and I consider the owner a close friend. It pains me to see this post bc I know the type of person he is and the product he produces is top notch. Not speaking for him here, but the business expansion game is sometimes a hard one to get your head around. A lot of times if you don't plan far enough ahead it can catch up to you. I think this is what has happened in this case along with some of the Gov issues that happened. I do know, though I haven't spoke to him recently, that since he got the green light to get moving again, he has been working like a mad man to catch up. I hope that he can get things right with everyone (which I'm sure he will make every effort to). I hesitate to even post this, knowing how aggravated (and rightfully so) some of you guys are with him. Please don't take this as a buddy trying to apologize for his friends actions, not the case. I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents.

Frankly, it's in ANY industry. Association management, etc. If someone is mad they rarely get less mad because you ignore them. Address it, take the ass chewing, even if you don't deserve it, and move on.

I really want to believe SSC and have no reason to doubt his sincerity. However, during our conversation I explained the necessity of being open with your clients. You may lose some by being transparent, but you'll gain more in the long run.

Colt, I appreciate your reference. Based on my conversations with SSC, he seems like a good dude, which is why I have continued to be patient. I hated to post on this thread as well, but both occasions resulted in a phone call.

I just hope a month from now, rather than bumping this thread, I'm writing a glowing review.

Sort of reminds me of alienwear holsters. Once the word got out they were absolutely swamped with orders and their backlog became huge. They were better set up to handle it but still the volume nearly overwhelmed them. I love their products (own four of them now) but for a while they were struggling with communication and output. The got a lot of bad feedback from that initially and i know they lost some people as customers.

What I am saying is that it happens and as long as SSC holds on and doesn't have a mental breakdown or something hopefully he can recover from this. And be better prepared in the future.
