I am thinking about buying a 6.8 SPC (Special Purpose Cartridge) upper for my AR. The research I've done on it so far says the upper and the carrier bolt can be used on an AR-15. Has anyone ever shot this cartridge? If so how did it shoot? One of my biggest reasons for holding off on getting it is ammo. The places I've looked don't carry it and you have to order it online.

I bought one last year, after deciding that I wasn't happy with the 5.56 for deer. I've taken a couple with it, and my daughter used it to take her first deer last year. I get slightly <1" groups at 100 yards. I buy my ammo online for the most part. I just put a new trigger and scope on my 30-06, so I'll probably start using it some again, though.

Couple of weeks ago I was thrilled with it when I took all three hogs that showed up at my feeder. First was unlucky, and the second two weren't smart enough to scatter far enough that I couldn't see them. :-) 3 shots - 3 hogs

Why do you want a 6.8 instead of a 5.56? If you are just wanting it to shoot for fun, get a 5.56. Cheaper, and more ammo options.

Baseball, considering I just built and love my spc, I will be carrying 6.8 spc in stock at all times. I'll have a few different loads depending on what you are looking for.

I'm mainly looking at the larger caliber. The 5.56 is a great round I just want something a little bigger without going up into the AR-10 platform. I have the larger calibers in bolt which I love 30-06, 300 Win. Just something different from the rest of the herd I guess.

6.5 Grendel. Better ballistics and a supply of cheap Wolf ammo.

I see no point in dropping the cash needed on a Grendel to run wolf through it. Longer wait time on Grendel barrels and such, as well. Looking at the options, I went into the above build wanting to do a Grendel but the SPC won out. It has a larger following and more likely to succeed over the long term. Still want a Grendel but it's down the list now.

I have killed quite a few animals with my 6.8 SPC: deer, pigs, turkey and even an aoudad. All were one shot kills. It's a deadly caliber.
