Generally refers to the percentage of Beaver vs. Rabbit fur in a hat. Each hat maker is unique in their designation, but when looking at each hatmaker, the higher the number the better the hat... usually smoother as well.

What crossbow said is correct, thickness is a measure of quality, just remember it is an inverse relationship. Good hats are thin.

A quality felt hat will be thin and surprisingly stiff relative to its thickness. It will be smooth to the look and touch, and most of all, it will be light. Wearing a quality hat that fits good will make you forget you have a hat on your head.

How much does a 50x custom made hat run?

Wanted to give you guys an update...

Picked up my 50X Silver Belly on Friday. About a month order to delivery. Hat fits my head perfectly... no gaps whatsoever... and that's hard with my odd shaped head.

Ok. No offense to Marcus, or the shirts, but thats actually a quote from the movie Tombstone. Was just kind of curious about it.

Serratelli makes a dang good 100x but the next hat I will buy is from Burns Saddlery in Utah. Great family and their 100x is about $650.
