I've got a small deck off of my back patio. There's one or maybe more rat/mouse that I think lives under the deck but makes obvious night visits on the patio. Can't get under the deck because it's too shallow. What can I do to get rid of them. I have a lab that lives inside but is out back on a regular basis so I have to be careful how I attack this. The lab knows he's there because he continually sniffs him out and try's to get to him. Any ideas?

Yeah my dog is my main concern here. I thought about throwing some mouse cubes up under the deck but would be afraid the rat might drag one out into the yard and the dog get it so that's a no go. I put a couple of glue boards out under the weber where the dog can't get on them so guess I'll see how hunting is tonite.

I've had limited success with spring trap with peanut butter. But my 2 outside cats... no more rats.

Get the electric trap from Home Depot. Have killed several rats with it. Bait with peanut butter

Will check it out. Never heard of an electric trap.

+1 on the electric trap. We developed a rat issue last year, because we started feeding our dog outside in the evenings, and she sometimes did not eat all her food every night. We too have a deck that sits pretty low and that is where we thought they came from/were staging their attack from.

Ratschwitz. May not be PC, but that's what we started calling our electric trap. They got around the conventional ones, and the glue traps would just disappear. But Ratschwitz nailed 3 in under 30 minutes one night. Trick is to leave it off, and bait it for a couple of days. They get used to going in an eating (we baited with) peanut butter. Then bait again and turn it on. Check it every hour or two the first night on. I bet you get several. We thought we had one or two. We fried 8. Have left it sit, with the glues as a check for almost a year now and nothing. We also pick up the outside dog feed every night to prevent further issues.

Get a few of the wood spring traps and tie a pecan half on the tray. You will have those rats within a few minutes.

I think this was covered in the Bond movie Skyfall. Bury a barrel with some bait. Rats go into the barrel. They get hungry and start eating each other. Eventually there are only 2 rats left. Release the two cannibal rats under your deck.

We'll I got that rat the first night I set out a glue board. He was executed while laying on his back in the glue so he saw it coming. But it was quick. He was the only one so I guess a loner.

I watched a youtube of that Victor Electronic Rat Trap..... works great but not sure if a lab could keep his nose out of it.
