So a buddy of mine gave me a SOG Elite II Auto blade. It's pretty cool, then it clicked its a switchblade. I read the switchblade law was repealed, but are the legal to carry as pocket knives? My friend seemed to think you may need a chl(made no sense to me since it's not a handgun) to actually carry it. Anyone know what the state of Carrying a full auto knife is?

HB 1862 removed state restrictions on switchblades and spring blades effective September 1, 2013. Some municipalities continue to have bans in effect, so research your city and county ordinances.

For some reason, I think I heard that they are no longer illegal as long as the knife only has a blade on one side. If it's double edged, I think it's illegal. Not sure where I heard that though.

State restrictions are gone. They are still illegal federally.

This. I talked to the sheriff a couple of weeks ago and he told me it was legal as long as it wasn't a double edged.

I'd like to know the logic behind that stupid law in the first place and also why the hell double edged makes a difference. Knife laws are pretty much retarded.

Switchblade law dates back to the mid/late 1950s I believe. Lots of dumb laws came down back then.

I heard that greaser kid stuck mikey pretty good with his switchblade. Left him to die in a fountain.

Scumbags. Can't wait to catch up with them all so me and my mod friends can teach em what for.

Double-edged are classified as a dagger.

Kind of my point. No reason for them to be outlawed either. Makes no sense.

High capacity assault knives have no real use outside of the battlefield.

Daggers are NOT illegal. They are prohibited. You can legally own one, but you cannot carry.

I know, I know, it's stupid.

I did not mean to insinuate that daggers are illegal. I was just clarifying the classification.

You can carry an "illegal knife" if you have a CHL and you are also carrying your handgun, PC 46.15 creates an exception to PC 46.02 (UCW) for this.

"PC 46.15. NONAPPLICABILITY. (a) Sections 46.02 and 46.03 do not apply to a person who: (6) is carrying a concealed handgun and a valid license issued under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, to carry a concealed handgun;"
