Magpul flip up sights - way off?

On Saturday I shot my brand new Daniel Defense M4v7. The only sights I have on it right now are a brand new set of front and rear Magpul flip up sights. The point of this thread is because the sights were WAAAAY off from the factory and I'm trying to figure out why. They were making my POI about a foot low and maybe a foot and a half off to the right. Here is a pic of the rear sight after I got it sighted in.

As you can see I had to move the adjustable part way left to bring the POI where it needs to be. The sights are genuine Magpul stuff, they aren't installed crooked, etc. has anybody else had this problem before?

Bonus pic of all the guns we had out there between a group of 4 guys:

Maybe try a different set of sights/optics that were sighted for the same distance on a similar weapon instead of the currents irons to see if you possibly have an incorrectly installed barrel? I know every weapon is different, but a good baseline from another similar weapon may shed some light as I can't imagine sights being that off centerline for proper POI orientation.

Try some other sights to establish if its the sights or the gun.

Did the box say Magpul PTS on it?

No they weren't PTS sights, and weren't knockoffs. Genuine Magpul.

Good suggestion on trying some other sights. I'll borrow some from a friend and put them on the gun and see what happens.

slightly canted hand guard? Is the rail plum from receiver all the way down the hand guard?

What about inconsistent cheek weld? Every rifle will zero a bit different for each shooter depending on how they have it mounted.

I have absolute co-witness height risers with my red dots. I sight in the red dot and then move the MBUS rear aperture and front post in alignment with the dot so the dot is sitting on the top of the sight FSP.

Had this happen to me too after I replaced the handguard with a freefloat quad rail. When I put the gas block back on I did not get it level with the flat top. This made my front site WAY off. Once I figured this out and leveled out the gas block the sites are dead on now.

This is a brand new gun that I had not even shot before and had not done any work on.

Here is the setup. I was shooting at a table with the front of the rail resting on a sandbag, and I'm not a novice shooter.

Exact same thing happened to me. I put the gas tube through the wrong port in my Yankee Hill free floating rail and the receiver and hand rail didnt line up right. Easy fix though.

My BUIS from Magpul look just like this.

It's a bit concerning, but it has held zero for well over a year.
I just assumed the metal ones from Troy or others were less likely to this versus the polymer of the Magpuls. Polymer isn't perfect. That's why I buy Sigs and 1911s. Sorry Glock boys...

Thank you for your input. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.

Hey, I buy Glock and put steel night sights on 'em. Good to know on the Magpul BUIS though. Thanks for sharing.

My CMMG front sight is off a little from the factory, so the rear sight is almost that far over too. My son says several of the Colt M-4's his unit has in inventory look like that.

Mine is about the same as yours. I've heard that if you turn over the MBUS, there may be a little raised area where they injected the polymer that might be causing it to not sit 100% flat on the rail. You can try scraping that off and retesting. I think it's either that or your front sight post. I haven't tried scraping it off to see if that'll fix it because I don't feel like zeroing it again.

I also see plenty of sights like that in my unit using standard iron sights. It has more to do with how those folks mount the rifle in their case. Additionally, flip ups can have manufacturing flaws that can cause them to sit funny as others mentioned.

However all that being said, since you went with flip up sights i am guessing you are planning on an optic of some kind. So if it zeroed, i wouldn't worry about it at all. The Magpuls will hold a zero really well, slap on your optic and enjoy.

Yes I am planning an optic, I just haven't decided what yet. In the mean time, I wanted to throw these flip up sights on just so I can shoot/enjoy the gun until I decide on an optics.

I'm glad to hear more people have had similar experiences and I just didn't get a defective set. Thanks guys.

Yeah I have some Troy flip-ups and while they aren't as bad yours, I did have to adjust the back sight a few clicks to right to zero it on my BCM. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Really common to see this on rifles. Maybe not the sights. How do the rail and receiver flat tops line up at the continuation point?
