Taking 10 scouts from T285 SA,TX to New Mexico next week. We are trying to earn the fishing merit badge and fly fishing merit badge while we are at Vermejo Park Ranch. If things go as planned, pics to follow. A couple of sons/scouts of Aggies in the group.

Cool, camped there a couple of times as a kid myself.

The first part of the trip is to Tres Ritos Boy Scout camp. Learning Geocaching/orienteering, Environmental science, geology and cooking with some repelling thrown in as well. The next two days are at Vermejo Park Ranch with an Eagle Scout guide for fly fishing.

If anyone has boys looking to joins the scouts, come take a look a Troup 285. Next year is diving at the Galapagus Islands.

Where did you have the most luck? Bernal, the Reservoir, etc? I'm going to try and take my kids as soon as we can schedule it.

Adams was #1, Bartlett #2 and then Munn. We were up top our second day teaching them how to fly fish on #1 and#2 creeks.

What did you use to catch the lake trout?

Strong work!!!!

The bait of choice for my scouts - Kastmaster. The rainbow trout color and silver with 1/2 orange worked the best. We threw the heavy ones. Either buzzed the moss about 4 inches under the water, or threw to the deep water and let them sink to the count of 10 before starting the retrieve. On the final afternoon, my son Tripp (1st pic) wanted to be captain, so I got to fly fish on Adams. I caught 5 nice bows on a large blue damsel fly. The biggest was in the 4lb range and about 22 inches.

I'm going to throw a few more up, and a couple unrelated just for fun.
